Can I wash the computer at the car wash along with the frame of my pump? I am going to use the self serve car wash to clean the frame up and was wondering if the computer would be ok if I sprayed it down. Also what kind of grease should I use on the gear box below the numbers? I looked at the gear box and it looks pretty simple just some gears stacked up with some planetary gears in there and I am going to take it appart and clean everything out if I can't put it in the car wash. If anyone has any better ideas please let me know. This is my first pump and I just want to make sure I ask before I start doing things that could damage stuff.

Unless your a watch maker/repairman, DON'T take the VR APART !
Getting ALL them gears back into correct alignment & timing will make you go Bald or turn you into a Plumber [like Joe Yocom]!

Yes, Go ahead and use the high pressure wash from the car wash. Be careful around any decals that you might want saved, although DB does new ones if you need them! After its cleaned up, let it dry real well and then spray the whole thing down with WD-40 to get it lubed up and protect the parts from furthur corrision! A good washing will do wonders!

Awesome I will bring it with me when I go. The reels actually have the numbers stamped into them so I don't have to worry about loosing any numbers and the decal at the bottom of the gear assembly is basically white paper with the faint word computer so I'm not too worried about loosing that one. I think I will keep the computer together. Would not want to screw it all up.

I had one completely apart once and was able to get it back together with the help of looking at a complete one but the darn thing isn't timed right and won't reset! I'm going to have to send it off to Joe this winter!

I did not think about messing up the timing on it. I'm glad I asked before I just dove into it and pulled it appart.

Contact Joe Yocum. You don't want to create a migraine for yourself, do you?

If this is a for a pump you want to keep, give him a call or email.

Here are some pictures of the computer. It has a lot of dirt in it but I think I can wash that out. The gears don't look too bad just think they need a good washing too. I did actually have it counting last night while I was turning the gear that connects the gear box to the reels. Takes a lot of turns to get 1/10th of a gallon pumped.

Went to the car wash today and got it all cleaned out. The computer looks a whole lot better. Does not look new because of the rust on some parts but it looks pretty good. How do you change the price on these things? I have no idea how to go about doing that.

I got rust on the shaft there so that part does not move too well. I might be able to use some steel wool and get the rust off or just work it up and down with a lot of WD40. Also should I grease the gears or just use WD-40?

Because your VR is kinda Cruddy, to set the price manually [for show]. Remove keeper pin in each wheel you want to change, turn to desired # & replace keeper pin.

I actually got the prices to move. I can not get them all the way there yet but I did work them so that they will move through more than half the notches.

Well the bottom with the price reels works and turns fine but I think the top with the reels is shot. I got them to sort of work but they keep jamming and will sometimes disengage and get stuck when the next reel is going to change. I am going to give it one more shot by soaking it in simple green and if that does not work I am going to look for a new one.
