Leave it as is, it is not terrible and it has more appeal now then if it was restored

Things are only all original once. I'd leave it as is. I like the character that signs that have been in use have. Mint looking just doesn't do it for me. A bit rough around the edges is how I like um.

Chuck. You don't want to put that beat to hell sign in with all those nice mint signs you have. Just bring it up here. It will feel more at home here with my beat to hell Frontier signs! I say leave it as it is! chris

Restore it if you never want to sell it. Keep it original if you want to get your money back at some point.
My .02? Did you get the other sign as well?

Leave it the way it is. If you want a mint one, get a piece of metal and paint it up like the Doc does, yea, then you could resell this one to someone who likes it the way it is.

IT'S REALLY UP TO YOU OF COURSE. BUT IF MY OPINIONS MATTERS, I'D SAY LEAVE IT ALONE. IT HAS WAY TOO MANY CHIPS. UNLESS YOU'RE GOOD AT DETAIL PAINTING AND CAN MAKE IT LOOK DECENT...LET IT STAY THIS WAY. I HAVE TOUCHED UP SEVERAL BARN HANGERS OVER THE YEARS. THEY LOOK GOOD FROM 20' AWAY BUT UP CLOSE YOU CAN SEE THE TOUCH UPS FOR SURE.

If you leave it it will be would more in the future. It seems that the restored ones dont bring as much money.

Conensus so far is to leave it alone. I considered a full resto to one side but I'm thinking maybe just some paint in the rough spots on one side. What do you guys think about that? For those wondering, I did purchase both Frontier signs.

...'inside sign' - leave it alone...
...'outside sign' - touch up with paint to prevent further deterioration...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I know Scott Wright pretty damn well and if he said he didn't get them I believe him. I know most of the big collectors in Colorado. So...POLESIGNKID...get a name or phone# from him. Tell him you'll give him a kickback if you can buy something from the guy who bought them. I don't know another Scott in CO that might have bought them. I'm about to pull the BS flag on this story! Chuck...know anything??? Mitch...what do you know???? Did you meet up with him yet??? I'd love to know the real story!!! Nobody has contacted me about Frontier globes and I think anyone I know around here would at least let me know that they had them. So this story may become an Oldgas Urban Legend! chris

Well I just got of the phone with Eric and he said the guy that bought the globe said his name was Scott and he was from colorado. He never saw the guy he agreed on the price and brought cash and picked them up at his grandmothers house. So maybe there is another big collector named Scott in colorado that you don't know about. Or maybe some bought them and said his name was Scott to get the board all in a tissy. Or maybe so one just wants the globes for himself........

I asked him about the globes. He told me he had sold a couple of globes a few years back and found some more when he finished cleaning out his grandfather's stuff including these two signs. His grandfather owned a Frontier station back in the day.
He told me the globes went fast and he was at work when the guy came to pick them up. He said he left them with his family (mom or grandmom...don't recall) and she collected the money. He told me he hadn't been writing down phone numbers until he started getting slammed with phone calls so he didn't have a good traceability. He didn't strike me as someone who needed to fabricate a story so there might be someone out there that scored on some great globes.....I just know it wasn't me!

I'm not jealous of the deal. I just wish I knew who got it so I could find out if there were any I need in that score. Then try to get a second on the house if he would sell them! I think I'm only missing 2 now! The hard ones!!!

I don't get what the big deal is. How is it any of our business who bought the globes? If it was someone on here and he wants to sell, I'm sure he'd contact the parties that expressed interest. But, if he doesn't want people to know, isn't that his right?

I wouldn't touch it up with paint, either, Chuck. I think it looks far better like it is now. If I bought a porcelain sign with paint touch-up, I would strip it off... Just my opinion.
