SOMEONE LIT A FIRE UNDER ME! SOMEBODY CHECK MY PULSE! YUP, YUP.... ANOTHER OOOPS!

THIS TIME I WAS INSPIRED BY A SIGN THAT SHOWED UP IN A B.O.T.W. SEVERAL WEEKS BACK BY MR. WADHAMS. I ASKED JIM IF HE COULD GET TO ME A LARGER FILE PICTURE OF THE SAME SIGN WHICH HE DID IN AN EMAIL EVENTUALLY SINCE HE NEEDED HIS DAUGHTERS CAMERA.

HERE IS THE SIGN I WAS LOOKING TO REPLICATE....

I IMMED REPLICATED THE ARTWORK WITH PHOTOSHOP AND PRINTED MY LINE DRAWING FOR THE OVERHEAD PROJECTOR. FROM THAT I GOT AN IDEA OF HOW BIG IT WAS GOING TO BE ON A PIECE OF LEFTOVER 1 X 12" FINGER-JOINTED BOARD. I MADE MY MARK, CUT THE BOARD AND THEN FRAMED IT WITH 3/4" PINE CORNER GUARD MOULDING.

HERE IT IS JUST PRIOR TO GETTING PRIMED WITH KILZ 2 WATER BASE WHITE....

I LET THE PROCESS MULL AROUND IN MY HEAD FOR ABOUT A DAY OR SO.
I DECIDED I WOULD PAINT THE FRAME FIRST. SO I CAREFULLY TAPED OFF THE SIGN AREA WITH BLUE PAINTERS TAPE AND PAINTED THE FRAME X-O RUST GLOSS BLACK AND LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE DAYS SINCE IT WAS HUMID AND COOLER LAST WEEK.

MY NEXT STEP WAS TO PAINT THE CORRESPONDING COLORS FOR EACH AREA. THE SHIELD I KIND OF DETECTED WAS AN OFF WHITE. WHETHER IT TRULY IS OR NOT, THAT'S THE COLOR IT WILL BE. WADHAMS WOULD BE PURE WHITE AND THE GAS/OILS I CHANGED UP A BIT. INSTEAD OF AMBER, I MIXED UP A COLOR A BIT MORE ORANGE. ANOTHER DAY OR SO SET ASIDE TO DRY.

NEXT I SET IT UP VERTICAL AND USED THE OVERHEAD TO TRACE OUT THE LETTERS, THE SHIELD, THE PEGASUS AND THE LINES THAT WOULD MAKE THE WHITE BORDER RIGHT INSIDE THE EDGE OF THE BLACK FRAME. I PAINTED THAT AREA GLOSS WHITE WHEN I DID THE WADHAMS AREA.

NOW I COULD FINALLY BRING THE PROJECT INSIDE WHERE THE HUMIDITY WAS MUCH LESS AND IT WAS WARMER....

I PLACED IT ON MY DINING ROOM TABLE AND STARTED WITH THE X-O RUST
HOT RED GLOSS LIKE I USED ON MY LAST PROJECT SIGN THE "D-X."

OVER THE WEEKEND, I FIGURED I HAD SOME TIME TO DO ALL THE AREA AROUND THE LETTERS AND SHIELD. I USED X-O BLACK GLOSS FOR THIS.
IT TOOK THE BETTER PART OF 2 HOURS WITHOUT ANY DISTRACTIONS. THE SIGN WAS REALLY STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE VISUALLY...

ONCE THE BLACK AREA WAS DONE ON THIS 12.5" x 54.5" SIZED REPLICA, I SET IT ASIDE FOR 2 FULL DAYS DRYING TIME....

THE LAST THING TO BE DONE WAS THE DETAIL IN THE PEGASUS. I USED A FINE POINT PAINT PEN AND JUST FREE-HANDED IT USING A PRINT-OUT FROM MY COMPUTER FILES AS A GUIDE....

AND HERE IS THE FINISHED PROJECT....

YOU MIGHT NOTICE THAT THE SHIELD IS SOMEWHAT LARGER THAN THE ORIGINAL. I DID THIS ON PURPOSE! wink

THANKS!
