He claimed it was origianl and from the US. He had several other cool signs, but I just hate the "name your price" game.

One sold for over $500 ON EBAY..I am not sure if its fake or real- the seller had two of them...different versions- I would stay away. I have never seen it before-but who knows with this hobby....there is a lot of fake stuff that is out there...I like the old firestone stuff...but I do not think this sign is worth over $200 if its real---maybe an expert can chime in...

From Wikimedia;
Polonium (play /pɵˈloʊniəm/ po-LOH-nee-əm) is a chemical element with the symbol Po and atomic number 84, discovered in 1898 by Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Pierre Curie. A rare and highly radioactive metalloid,[1] polonium is chemically similar to bismuth[2] and tellurium, and it occurs in uranium ores. Polonium has been studied for possible use in heating spacecraft. It is unstable; all isotopes of polonium are radioactive.

I'm not sure how long Firestone sold them, but I have 3 of them. 2 of them are NOS, still in their boxes with wax paper covers.

Well, here is one of the other signs he offered me. I was ready to buy both, I was just looking for help in setting a fair price to offer, but now I think I will pass. I was told both were being offered this past weekend at Kane County IL Flea Market. Did anyone else see them, or hold in your hands? I just want to be sure before I pass on the deal.

EVEN THAT ONE YOU JUST POSTED LOOKS A BIT SLOPPY. THE FONT ON THE WORD (RADIOACTIVE) LOOKS SUSPICIOUS. POSSIBLY A PRODUCT OF KNOWN REPOPPER "T-RAY?"

called this guy last week after I paypal'd 9 days ago..here is his response:
Dear advertologist,

It hasn`t shipped yet. Will go out in a few days. Sorry,I`ve been working.

Hey, After all your comments, I started taking a second look at the second sign. Check out the "A" in Spark Plug. The "A" is missing the cross.

I called a guy I know over at the Shipshawana Flea Market. He told me these came from a guy over in Coitsville, Ohio. That all he knew, but I know now that I am passing on these at any price.

AAA sign company colesville ohio. Used to be one of the biggest makers of repro/fantasy signs. I thought they were out of business.

AAA sign made the embossed 24" tins for years and years.

As far as these firestone signs, they are both fake. What tips me off always is the chipping. On the fakes, there's always some bright right along the edges and the rust looks real orange. Again, I had the advantage of handling thousands of repops and I know what they look like when they chip and sit around a warehouse. We had a "junk" bin, anybody that came to my auctions can attest, and it just seems like all repops chip the sign.

advertologist, I do not have an eBay account, so eBay will not allow me to look at completed auctions. My brother was at that Kane County market this weekend and gave the dealer my E-Mail address. I do not know the guy's last name, but all of his messages are signed "Dale". I am not sure if the person who sold you the one on eBay is the same person I am communicating with. Did your sign have that funny "A"? Then again, he may have a whole stack of both signs for all I know. If you have any photos of the one you won, can you tell if the chips are in the same place as the photos he sent me? After 9 days with your money he has not found time to ship the sign???

I CAN'T SWIPE THE PHOTO FROM THE EBAY/ADVERTOLOGIST AUCTION, BUT IT IS DEF THE SAME EXACT PICTURE AS THE ONE YOU POSTED ABOVE, CHIPS IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE AS WELL AS THE FLASH REFLECTION. COULD BE THE SAME PERSON ...DALE?

Here's a picture of the sign that advertologist bought on eBay.

It's the exact same picture so "Dale" must be the eBay seller oldjunque74.

...Doc, if you enlarge the photo on eBay, then go to the menu bar and click:

View > Page Style > No Style

...you can then copy the enlarged photo...works for me in Firefox, but not Safari...just be sure to change it back:

View > Page Style > Basic Page Style

...or you won't be able to browse...

I WAS ON SAFARI, MY MAIN BROWSER. I USUALLY TRY TO DRAG AND DROP. SOMETIMES IT DOES WORK. SELLERS MUST HAVE CONTROL OVER THAT OPTION(?).

Thought I`d add my 2 cents to this. I`m new to the site but have been watching off and on for years. I think these are the work of John Clifford from Monticello Indiana. He supposedly sold out a couple of years ago, but I hear he`s back at new signs. I believe the oval outboard motor signs that were discussed here a while back were his invention too. I have seen a Texaco outboard motor one that turned up recently also.I`ve heard he has a web site, but can`t recall what it is. If my memory comes back`I`ll post it.

just my 2 cents..........nothing wrong with buying repops as long as they are priced as repops and not passed off as originals. There's a host of guys who show up at the shows who sell repop signs and fantasy globes and that's okay as long as they don't try to pass them off as real.

If you like the design and don't mind a repop or two in you collection, make an offer knowing that its a repop. Chances are you'll never see the design in real life.

You are right Hembird. Some of the new signs are kinda nice if you can buy them right. But those new porcelain signs that John Clfford sells as old are showing up everywhere at big prices. Some of my friends bought from him at antique shows for big bucks and he refused to give them back their money when asked. He`s been lying low for a while but has been resurfacing through various sellers on Ebay. Now I hear that he`s filtering them through dealers in the South. Best thing to do is keep informed.

The guy selling these signs is Dale Robinson of Sycamore, ILL. He sells some signs on ebay. His farm related signs he puts on Yesterday's Tractor (ytmag.com). I believe he sells a mix of original and reproduction signs.
