HARD TO SAY IF JUST SOME GOOD OL BARKEEPERS WILL CLEAN IT UP. BUT ANY SUGGESTIONS????

I have tried on other signs with no luck, The best you can do is wet your finger and wipe it on the sign if it looks like it took off the white then you can clear coat it but I dont like doing it unless your going to keep it. good luck

Is it like and an oxidation. If so wet the sign with water then spray some yellow can easy off oven clean on it,then rub it around and hose it off....Test in an area first....
Cities service, Vickers, Gas and Auto neons, next exit/ ahead signs and now I'm getting into globes....

i'm not to sure what it is, its a sign i'm interested in, but don't want to procede if it won't clean up, i think i might just take the chance. Thanks for the info!

I do not think it will clean up. I have never had luck removing fading from porcelain signs. If anyone has suggestions that would be great? Is that the one on EBAY with the hole in it?

If you have not bought it yet, unless you can get it cheap I would wait that is a common sign.

Yeah its on fleabay and its pretty close to me, i've been searching for awhile for one, I would only break on it if i could get it for cheap!

The oxidation is tough to remove. As for the color, I've had good luck useing Feed and Wax. It's basically a furniture wax that is available at Home Depot. Amazingly, the oils bring out the cobalt blues very well. Give it a try. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

OR CLEARCOAT IT WITH OIL BASED POLY. SPRAY IT LIBERALLY WITH WD-40.

the problem with using that stuff that it is a temporary solution.
feed and wax, wd-40, linseed oil etc...collects dust and dirt.
it won't restore the color have faded...just makes the faded color shiney.

I use the easy off oven cleaner to take oxidation of the windows I clean.....it works........
Cities service, Vickers, Gas and Auto neons, next exit/ ahead signs and now I'm getting into globes....

Polesignkid-How long do you leave the easy off on the sign? Have you used it on porcelain signs with good results? I have a sign with some oxidation and rust stains. Wonder if this method would be the best route. Thanks

Would anyone rec. using Barkeepers friend on a porcelain sign? I have heard some people have good results but others say not to use it. I am looking for the best method to remove rust stains without damaging the sign. Thanks.

I have never had any problems using Barkeeper's Friend on porcelain signs. It works great. I bought a Shell sign that had some bad rust stains and I cleaned it up with Barkeepers.

If you use Barkeeper's Friend, do not leave it on very long. Work a small area with water and then rinse immediately. I have seen signs that have had the glossy finish "etched" or dulled from letting it sit too long.

I was gonna use some fine 0000 steel wool and some bar keepers and leave it on for no more then a minute or so- I will try and post results. Thanks for the help!

I have alway had great luck with Barkeepers Friend but I never let it sit on the sign for a long period of time. I just rinse then reapply as needed.
