Anyone have tips on cleaning or refubishing a Tokheim 39 computer? Does anyone on this site rebuild or sell refurbished computers? I am new and dont have any experiance in how the computers work or what damage I can do cleaning it up. any help would be great.

A lot of the guys have seperated the top from the bottom part and soaked the top half in a bucket of simple green mixture and reported great success. I took one apart once and I don't think I have any desire to do it again! LOL Joe Yocom is the man if you need it rebuilt. He's done several for me and I've always been extremely pleased!

I suppose it depends on how clean you want it, but I did what Keith did and seperated the top from the bottom and repainted mine. I also did a few other things he mentioned-but that would then lead you to pandora's box and as someone told me that was a box I should not have opened - sorry for the digression. I cleaned all the garbage out and then took it to the car wash and power sprayed it. Be careful not to spray the number wheels too long or hard (clean those with a tooth brush and Era laundry detergent or something). Once I took the bottom off I cleaned my gears with a tooth brush and WD40 and wiped the excess off. I did a similar thing to the top. I cleaned with tooth brush, occasional tweezers and WD40. Once I put it back together the reset crank worked, the gears worked and the bell dings.

When I was dealing with Pandora's box I did get a copy of what Jack was/is steering you to. The diagrams and issue resolutions were very insightful.

It almost makes me want to become a Jack Yocum wannabe!

Good Luck with which ever road you decide to go down.

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions. I think I will contact Joe and go from there. Or should I just try to clean it myself. Decisions decisions. Thanks again. Mike

The only one I took apart WENT IN THE TRASH. I'll never take another one apart that far again [that was before I heard of Joe or anyone else].

I have had you guys fooled for years.
The computers you have been getting are cleaned w/ cat-spit.
