Do the math;
Most signs & pumps can be shipped for less than 2-3 tanks of gas & your time that it takes to drive it out. IF item is 100 miles away that's still close to 1 tank of gas & average of 3 1/2hrs driving time, round trip.

iF it fits it ships! I think I got it. Math = 5and1/2 hours to IL. + Three tanks of gas+ 5and1/2 hours back. To pick up 60in. sign I bought from fellow old gas member. Or I can have it mailed 3 day ups for 40bucks. One catch to this is we as sellers, have to be willing to work with buyers, to make pick up of items as simple as possable.

I got it,every time some one mentions ship methods on here,my ears perk up,cause I refuse to except. Well if it was only closer.

Do we have to complain about everything on this site. I am about tired i reading this site.

I feel like this topic is directed to my post on the Bennett pump. I would pay $750-$800 for a nice Bennett 4 ad glass pump. Why would i want to go through all the hassle of shipping it from Ca. to In. and have to worry about it getting damaged. It's not like it's a rare pump. Issue is people around here want $800 for a piece of junk missing parts and rotted out.

Here is how I look at it. If I see a nice Bennett 541 on the east coast for $500, I'm not buying it because it will cost me at least 250 to ship it. That's half the cost of the pump and those pumps are common. If I see the same Bennett 541 for $500 within a couple of hours from me or at a local gas bash, I'm buying it no question.

Now if I see a National Simplex for $5000 and it's on the east coast, I'm paying the $250 in shipping no problem. The cost of shipping is minimal to the cost of the item and the rarity of the item also plays a factor.

It just depends on what the item is to whether the saying is true or just a bunch of B.S. in my opinion.

I believe Dick is saying that a LOT of people say "If it was closer I'd Buy it" Which in reality is BS, most are just blowing steam. IF that same pump was closer, I'm sure you would not hear a word from that same person, and they would not buy it either.

So, If you want it buy it, If you don't want it, Don't buy it and don't say you would IF it was closer.

Am I right Dick

AND this is not aimed at anybody special, I have not seen anyone use that term recently.

If I was in Ga. I would drive to Jax Fl. for those 2 big signs. I ship big signs all the time. I am not paying 200 each or more for shipping.

Sorry if I envoked a fued ,I had to go out, and then had computer promblems. I bought the rem.tire sign last night. NOW keep in mind it's 16 wide, weight not so much?, and zip to zip, plays a big part in ship price. OLDGASER just emailed me and said it wasn't but 30.86 to three day,UPS. NO it's not a round 60 or 72,and it's not going coast to coast. should been more clear,I guess. Now pumps the whole time I was writting this morning,I was thinking, would I really trust a correct A+ restored pump, trusted to shippers. I don't know? I know their is a fellow,we know from race tracks around here that does special moving, and with the friendship attached I think so.

My point EXACTLY. If either of those signs were in NJ, CT, PA or upstate NY. I would go get them. But they are in Florida, too long a drive and more than likely not cheap to ship. The whole idea behind saying "if it were closer" means just that. I'm not throwing it out there because i'm not serious. I am serious simply because they are reasonable and I would buy them if they were indeed closer. I don't need costly shipping or driving costs hiking up the price because then it would seem so reasonable anymore.

SIMPLE AS THAT!
wink

Maybe it's different if you want it/gotta have no expense spared. I on the other hand don't like tossing $200 for a $300 sign. It then becomes a $500 sign. I am the bargain hunter. Last year I bought a $200 sign in CT. I actually towed my trailer along. The gas and tolls was $45....cha-ching! Not too bad! had a great trip and saw somebody elses collection. The signs in Florida, while reasonably priced aren't worth the shipping or driving expenses added on to ME! therefore, I don't have to have them! But if they were closer....I would seriously consider going the distance!
I MEAN WHAT I SAY AND I SAY WHAT I MEAN.

57 tbird just hit it on the head, I'm looking for special pump for company,I have attached my intrest to, so when I find it and I can afford it I'm going to jump. One got offered up the other day,and if I had the money sat aside,I'd been all over it. Get it bought, then figure out how to get to it. I'm not going to walk up on one here. How many post you see here, with old gas stuff for sale, from TN. You can count on your hand. So
yes I willing to ship, pick up at shows what ever it takes.

Thanks I'm done.

There IS more to life than Gas & Oil stuff, and this topic is in the right place, Non-petro Discussion and Showcase . If you guys were not interested you would not be reading this forum at all.
