So i'm looking to possibly buy this sign. Wanted to get some serious opinions of whether or not it's real or not.

size is 14" and is porcelain. Owner states it's from the 50's.

THANKS!

My opinion is that it is a real one. Not reproduction.

I'm going to have to disagree, Im no expert but I also have this sign. The blue shaddow on the left side of the O is brought too high up and the top of the K should be a little higher then the top of used. All of the ones I've seen where also marked on the bottom with the R in a circle and McAX. I have never seen a 14" one, but these are comparisions to my 36" one. I will post pics in a few.

I'm going to have to agree with Tyler. I've had them from 18" to 60". Never seen one like this.

Since this is in the petroliana discussion column, I feel its OK to respond this way!
This little sign exemplifies my frustration with the reproduction sign industry! After reading the posts from several members, I'm not sure one way or another as to its originality! If its a reproduction, its obvious that it was done a number of years ago and enough time has passed that someone thinks its original?? If it is indeed original, its in such nice shape and different enough that its confusing the heck out of some collectors!
What the heck will happen after a few more decades pass? Will these reproductions become an actual part of American history or will the history of the great United States become known as reproduced and simply fantasy?? It frustrates me and I'm bothered by it.

The one I have says used cars, but this one just looks a lot diffrent then mine. You can find the ok signs without too much dificulty, but are the ones that read "used ok cars" harder to find? I would stay away from that one, it doesnt look right imo.
And im with you on this one kevin, its like the oval genuine ford parts sign, yhey have been making repros for atleast 30 years from what ive been told, if left out how would one be able to tell.

Tyler, I should have re worded my comment. I have never seen a real OK sign in this size that says "Used Cars". We had a 36" and a 48" that had the used cars slogan. Both of which had the same makers mark.

Sorry for the confusion

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess i will pass. It was advertised for $100.

I thought the location of the holes might make it original and the fact that it's 14" not the usual 12". But the Reg "R" and the makers name not present make me think the obvious....repro.

I was thinking it was real and part of another larger sign.

these 14" signs were made by a guy on the East Coast a number (10-15?)) of years back. I bought a few from him (Knowing they were repo), and they were looked pretty nice. I have never seen an original in this size (smallest I know is 18")and have never seen the smaller ones with "Used Cars" on them. Hope this helps.
PS - I'm looking for a nice original bigger than 36" if anyone sees one. Thanks.

Thanks. I figured it was a repo since there was no markings on it and it is in just too good of shape.

Not a problem. Theres a search box at the top of the page to see if a topic has been previously discussed you might want to try first next time ANTG.

The back of that sign has all the classic "signs" of an Art Rooney repro. or fanasy piece.

McAx would tell me it's real. Probably part of a larger sign as seen around in show and BOTW threads....you know the ones! wink
