Sorry guys it took so long to get back. It's taken a little time to pick myself off the floor after hearing the valuation of this thermometer.
After careful consideration and thinking it over I have come to a conclusion of basically........not knowing what to do.
Options: * Selling it to someone here whoever offers highest price via an auction or otherwise. * Putting it on Ebay. * Selling it at auction ouside of here.
It sounds like the best way to go is the Iowa show this coming summer even though that is a long way off. Plus I suppose that can be a gamble if the right people don't show up the price goes way down.
But I don't want to get greedy. Last week I had this hanging in the garage basically worthless, today its a different story.
By the way this is a one owner piece. I got this in the late 70's when they were tearing down some old Milwaukee Road buildings in the South Minneapolis yard. Asked if I could have it and got it. I caused the damage by trying to lift it off the mounting nail and thus causing the damage. (Ouch)!
So, I have all your numbers of the people that are interested in it. This site will be the first to hear about the selling of this item.
Thanks for all your help. This is a fun group. Dave

That's a well-thought-out, cordial reply, Dave.
I'm sure you'll do well with your thermometer at the Iowa Gas auction. It is a well-promoted event, with in-person, internet, and phone bidding. So, the "right people" will be in attendance, one way or the other.
Good luck, and don't be a stranger to the Old Gas forum! Best, John in Wisconsin

...no doubt about it - the money for that piece is at Iowa Gas...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Hi guys. I know this isn't the 'for sale' forum anymore but thought I would mention that this thermometer is now listed in the Matthews auction catalog (lot #441) for Iowa Gas since a number of you were interested. Hopefully I can get down there in August. Selling this is a complete gamble as all auctions are; could be $100 or $1000, but its the fun that counts. I don't post on Oldgas but I am addicted to reading all the other posts every week. Its all very interesting. Have a good rest of summer.
