Hello! I ran across this sight while researching my oil can. (By the way, this is a really neat sight - had trouble staying on my subject - lol!) Anyway, it is a 5 gallon oil can that says "STANDARD OIL COMPANY IND" on front rim. It is heavy with a "flip top" lid. I can send a picture, but I don't know how to post it to this site. So if anyone else does, I'd be glad to send it so that it can be posted. My questions are: What is the age? What is the best way to clean up surface rust? Will painting it take away the value (if any)? Also, it still has oil residue inside which stinks! What is the best way to clean that? I intend to put it on my front porch as decor.
