Very desirable and expensive ! It looks original to me. The repop ripples don't show the ripple effect as well as the originals do.

Like the other guys have said, it's original. Dixie used a lot of yellow ripple bodies and even in this condition with staining to the base and edge wear to the lenses it could be worth in the neighborhood of a couple thousand dollars, provided there are no chips or cracks in the glass.
The ripple bodies are quite desirable and sought after, they are made of clear glass and then painted and fired on the inside. When lit, the rippled texture of the glass (opposed to the smooth texture of a regular gill or glass body) is very pretty. These bodies can be found in the following colors: clear (non-painted), white, yellow, red, blue, orange, and green. There are also several different shades of many of these colors.
As Scott pointed out, there are reproduction ripples on the market, but the texture is not nearly as pronounced and often the colors aren't quite right.

Some people need to just learn how to keep secrets! There are other ways to do research than posting an item at an auction on oldgas. You immediately put yourself at a disadvantage because everyone and their brother is now searching the web that so the stock has now gone from 10% to 75% in a matter of hours. Good luck trying to buy it now after you've shown it to oldgas community and the biggest gas globe dealer in the country LOL!

Don't worry Lost Highway, you were not the only one that saw that globe and auction, Yes a few more people know about it now But the ones that already knew, the ones that scour the auction listings worldwide, already had the info and that globe was not going to go cheap even if you never said a word.

I find it very interesting how quickly this topic took a turn directly away from the actual questions that were asked and the answers given...

I know who the auctioneer is calling tomorrow so far, and I will bid to win but there is another party involved who has very deep pockets. And if anyone has any ripples for sale post them in for sale section .I am interested. (Hope I don't get in trouble for that)

There's another one on that list who you may not think has deep pockets but believe me he's going to make whoever buys it pay a pretty penny. And an auctioneer giving out other bidders names is pretty shady business if you ask me or even to ask an auctioneer who his other bidders are is pretty shady.

America - The greatest country in the world!!! You know one of the things we so take for granted in America is the Freedom of Speech. If you asked a dozen people the value of that globe you would get a dozen different opinions which is great!
As far as I am concerned Aaron is spot on with his value of around a couple of thousand. I have owned and seen a lot of ripples in 27 years of collecting. Please, everyone scroll up to the photo again and I will explain how we arrived at the value.
Look at the bottom of the lense. There is very obvious paint loss to the lower part of the lense. Also look to the left of the "D" in Dixie. There is either minor wear or edge chips to the edge of the lense in 10 to 11 o'clock area. Assume you are seeing the best of the two lenses because Auctioneers almost always picture the best side of the globe. The lenses have minimal value.
Look at the base of the ripple body. It has obviuosly had a very hot light bulb in it for an extended period of time. That black area is burned into the glass inside and out, trust me it will not clean up. I have tried on a number of ripples over the years. Based on my expeirience the collector to collector to value of the body is around $2000 and maybe a $100 for the lenses. And NO I have no intention of bidding or buying that globe. I myself would not apy over $1500 if I had to try and make a buck.
It only takes 2 people for an auction and if 2 people get into a bidding contest yes it could go for $3000 or more. If someone pays that much they paid to much becuase they could get a real clean yellow ripple for not much more.
Just my 2 cents from my experience. If you don't agree with me on the value take another close look at the photo, the condition, and check my comments about the beautiful thing about living in America!
You guys got to get out to the Shows that is where it is at! Hope to see many of you at Chip's Dixie Gas next week!

Hi Kyle (Lost Highway)
I see your comment about only working 20 hours per week and not having a lot of extra money to spend on globes. Do NOT get discouraged. There are a lot of good buys to made even today in globes and signs.
There are a lot (virtualy everyone) of people on this site who are glad to help out with advice and encourgement. When I started collecting globes in 1984 I bought one. In 1985 I bought another one and in 1986 a few more. As my income slowly went up as well as my knowledge of globes and knowing a good buy, I started buying more and the memories I have of trips, and the shows, and the people I have meet are priceless. Stay in touch!

Good math, use a machine? I believe the premium was 13% on phone bids. Now figure it for me.
