The pump mech in my fry is locked up. I've taken the lagre brass nut off, got the spring out, all the bolt out. Soaked it, put heat on it, used an air hammer and I still cannot get the pump to split. Is there something I'm not doing right.

pull out the graphite packing from around the shaft. also, under the spring should be a brass sleeve that pushes the graphite packing in. Do you have it out?
Once you have that sleeve and the packing out, put some penetrating oil on that shaft. Then get the air hammer after the cover again.
If the cover is not stuck to he shaft, the shaft could be stuck in the needle bearing on the backside. Then it's just muscle and determination. Good luck and don't break it.

Morgan,
I dont have the sleeve off the shaft its stuck. I have a very small gap in the cover now and have been spraying penetrating oil in it. I'm doing my best not to break it but it will have scars from this.
How far down does the sleeve go? I see a crack in mine.

Sure, just look in the old gas pump section! LOL Seriously, your best bet is to have a machinist make you one!

put lots of penetrating oil in the sleeve and let it set for a few days.
have you tried to hold the body and turn the shaft? On mine,I put a long pipe into the body and a large cresent wrench on the shaft (with cheater on the wrench) to get mine to budge. But once it broke loose, I was able to get the cover and shaft out and over to a press.

Miken,I know what you are going through. I tried all the things you have tried, without much luck. As a last resort I got a handful ,of low grade 3/8ths by 2 inch long hex head bolts and screwed them through the larger holes in the pump cover, into the threaded holes in the pump body, then took a small hammer and started around the 8 bolts hitting the heads about twice per trip. After about 30 to 40 trips it began to move just a little, then came the WD 40, and more tapping with the hammer. it took a bout 2 hours get it seperated. I never used anything much bigger than a 12/ 14 ounce hammer. It was tough all the way! As I ran out of shank on the 2 inch bolts I went to a 3 inch bolt and so on. It worked for me. Good Luck.

I broke the sleeve. I'm tring to be careful with the shaft its already somewhat rounded off. I did put it in the vise and tried to turn it but no luck. I've had it in the parts washer with a tube in one end and just let the thing run. I drilled the washer out and spent 2hours diging the packing out with a screwdriver.
cmmeon I thought about that. I put the bolts back in thinking it might be hung up from being a little bit apart, but not after breaking one of bolts off in it.

Morgan, How far down does the packing go? From looking at the outside I've got it out just past the bottom of the threads. Mike

I'm really not sure Mike. It's been a while since I took that type pump apart. You may be able to grab one end with some needle nose pliers and pull it out. They still sell this stuff at a local hardware store so I always replace it.
If you can't locate an end, drill thru it on opposite sides of the shaft then pry it out with a screwdriver. Or drive the screwdrive into it and pry it out.

Morgan, I drilled through the washer that the spring sits on and then broke it out in pieces. I've spent several hours digging the packing out with a screwdriver but am not sure were the bottom is. I think its all out. When the two halfs are split is there a hole just big enought for the shaft to fit through? Thats where i'm at with it.
The hardware store here sells it as well. Alot of fishing boats use it on the propeller shaft.

It sounds like you have it all out. Let it soak in some kerosene or penetrating oil for a day or so.
