I have never done it but be prepared to get some old gas to come out when you start. Lots of old gas left in these pumps.

Years ago, I had an oil jobber tell me that in order to clean the gasoline out of a tank truck, he put a box of Tide powdered laundry soap in the truck and drove it around to stir things up. Once he dumped the load, all was clean. He did this in order to use the tanker for filling swimming pools, in the summer? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Take the pump out, drain the old gas, and then have it tank dipped. That will clean it inside and out.
That worked well for removing the lubester smell that I needed to get rid of.
Tank dipping is also a cheap route to go.
Good luck...

Pump Mineral oil or Anti-freeze threw it. Water & soap will permit pump Rusting up inside.
