Yes that is correct, kinda like a geologist/petrology who's at a field camp digging for minerals & finds Gold, copper and zinc "in the wild /they dug up from natural habitat !!Here is a small haul/load i pulled out of "the wild" this weekend from a distributor that i will use as a example, this came from old bulk plant KEY PETROLEUM in San Antonio TX, don't get me wrong ,i will buy from a dealer in a heartbeat if it's something I'm after,i only use that term "in the wild" because that's what i enjoy the most about collecting is getting out & hunting/digging & finding this stuff in it's natural habitat "distributors/bulk plants" or where ever, even old Marine service stations are usually hot spots too!

In the field. In the actual world / real life rather than in theory.

I'll chime in to. I agree with Hi-Octane and alex on "in the wild". It's something found "outside" like at the station it was used at, or leaning on the side of an overgrown barn. To sum it up,in the wild, is a piece that has been untouched. Not a piece that's been restored or "doctored up". For example my wayne 511, I got it from the bus company that used until 1990; I'm keeping it in the condition I found it in. Just rewiring the light manifold.

Always looking for sunoco and DX smalls, texaco stuff and old ad.s for wayne 511 pumps.

Buy what ever you like! Example for me... i got into collect Skelly stuff and did that for 7 years. Then one day decided to collect local stuff from Indiana and sold almost all my Skelly stuff for what i paid. I didn't make money but then again i didn't try to... how many hobbies can you buy something cool and enjoy it for years and get your money back.
Enjoy the hobby and make friends in hobby and have fun. I always said when the fun went away i would quit... still buying. LOL

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

One other thing... i had many people say when i started "only buy rare or mint pieces" and there is some truth to that but buy what you like!
Don't let things like... "how much can i make on this if i sell it" or buying just for resale as you will soon find there isn't much fun in that. I seen to many collectors get wrapped up in buying things for resale and the fun factor goes to a 2.

Go to shows... meet other collectors and build relationships. That is the fun!

Thanks for the replys guys. There are several things mentioned in there I don't normally bring up simply because they are not on display at my place where I am usually working from.

DB,your point to edcuate themselves before really start buying stuff is a good one.I don't sell enough stuff so I didn't think of it.I just show what's available in a variety of price ranges, give them rough cost estimates and availability of pieces for various displays and let it go at that.

Good point.I'll put more books,CTO's.PCM's,Vics catalogs and such over in the showroom. And of course, best of all,RIGHT HERE!!!
