This morning I picked up a Chevron Price sign. It is 6 feet tall and 3'10" wide. It has a metal frame and the sign itself is metal. I am trying to guess it's age. With the '1' at the begining of the base price, it makes me think early to mid 80's but that is just a guess. I was hoping one of you would have a more educated guess. Thanks!!! (Looks kind of big next to my 56 Wagon!!)

Well with the prices posted, that was a LOOOONG time ago! LOL.
Just like the one we had at Grahams CHEVRON, back in the late 70's and into the 80's... All ya' need now is the additional numbers, so you can change the price evry now & then.
Anything Chevron I'd rather be flying.....

The only Slide in sign I have is the "Cash Price" On both sides. yes it is double sided. On the reverse of that is 'Mini Serve' and under that on the sign itself is 'Gasoline' I would like to get more just to change the price once in a while!!
I stopped to get gas on my way back and the attendant saw the sign in my pickup. I asked if i could put it out front just to see what people did, and he very excitedly said "We'd have a Riot!!!"

Gas hit the $1 a gallon mark in some parts of the country in late 1978. All over the country in 1979.
The 1970s were a rude awaking, as gas prices skyrocketed and to have the gas rationing on top of those high prices was outrageous.
I received my first drivers license in 1969 and paid .29 a gallon for gas (.21 a gallon during price wars), in Kelso WA. A decade later, gas was over $1 a gallon in Fayetteville NC.

CRX'S WERE MADE UNTIL 1991 OR 92. I BELIEVE THE TANKS WERE EITHER 10 OR 12 GALLONS. I RARELY LET IT TRULY GET TO "E" (DRIVING ON FUMES). CRX'S WEIGHED ABOUT 2,000#
1998 CRX? NO....CRV? YES!

My first car was a used toyota corrolla and during the gas crunch when they limited your purchase to $5.00 minimum to discourage topping off, my car had to be running on fumes to get gas...
