Is it legal to ship full cans of oil, by USPS, FedEx or UPS?
Thanks,
Jack Sim

I WOULD ASSUME THAT IF THE CAN IS PACKED PROPERLY (LEAKPROOF), THAT IT WOULD BE OKAY. I MEAN LET'S THINK ABOUT HOW MANY FULL CANS ARE SOLD ON SAY EBAY! I KNOW I'VE SHIPPED FULL CANS IN THE PAST W/O ANY PROBLEM.

Here in Canada, motor oil is deemed a hazardous product for shipping by mail and isn't allowed by Canada Post. There are probably a few who either ignore or don't know this regulation. You should be able to check the USPS website for their restrictions. From what I understand FedEx and UPS do not have this restriction and I have used them in the past for shipping full cans across the border. However I try not to use them now due to their outrageous extra brokerage fees that they collect at the door. Cheers, Don.

Jack, I could be wrong but I believe the only rules they all have is the cans with oil in them need to be shipped by ground, not air. Also fuzzy on this but I think that leaves out priority mail via the post office. Not sure what Fed Ex or UPS does different if anything..That's the way it used to be anyway. Mark

The USPS website would be the way to go. Certainly when I purchase my painting solvents, even those with very low toxicity and volitility, the company I purchase them from says they must be shipped ground.

IF for any reason the box it's in gets Squashed & oil leaks out, someone can be sent a bill/fine for sending it USPS Priority. Send it/them Parcel Post & pack as if it were Glass.

My thoughts exactly! I have received boxes that the seller never rinsed the can out and the Boxes were dripping like a Old Harley and all they said at the post office is " looks like somebody spilled something on your package" I have shipped full cans to Canada before, just ziplock bag them to play it safe.

I ship full cans all time by priority mail and I tell them what is in it and they mark it on the box as motor oil. No problems here. I never knew about the Canadian regulations but I have shipped full cans there also.

no one would ever get you for it. i work at fedex ground and if something busts, kitty litter gets thrown on the spill and the remnants of whats left are boxed up and the customer is called. WAY too much going on around our facility to worry about what is leaking out of the boxes

Go to the USPS website. You can legally ship full oil cans. They have a limit on the amount though. You just have to package it right.
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/
