This belongs to my toy friend. He bought it 10 years ago at an antique show. Size: Approx. 6 inches long!

Has anyone seen one of these? Ashtray by a pump company?

That's just what I need for a scaled down gas pump I made.
Not really an Ash Tray, more of a paper clip holder. Ash Trays have divets to lay cig's in around edges.

Henrik,
As usual DB knows his butts. The OPW nozzle was a desk accessory, and from what I can find out, it was given to Bulk Plant Dealers, who may have passed them along to their best station owners. Someone put out a reproduction of these years ago, that were made of aluminum. The originals were bronze. Here are a few of the ashtrays that I have in my collection that relate to petro.

This one advertises ESSO motor oil . The little can is held on with a rivet. The cover is in pretty bad condition, maybe it's time to have DB make me a new one?

This is one of my favorites. Advertises the American Oil Pump & Tank Co. and has a great dispenser on it.

Another cool ashtray. This one Advertises "Hayes" gas pumps, and the "Major Bowes" Radio Show. This radio show was much like todays "America's Got Talent" only on the radio. A very cool Cash Recorder pump, with hand lettered dial and advertising.

Front view, it show's it age.

Those are very neat and each item packs a lot of "WOW" factor! The kinda items that we would all love to have in our collections. All the time being painfully aware that they are so rare that only a few lucky collectors will ever have the opportunity to purchase and own one. That's what makes collecting so darn interesting, we never know what we be exposed to (educated about) or discover next. The thrill and excitement of never knowing what or where we are going to find that next great piece drives us all.

Very well said, that is the very reason why repros suck, they take the WOW factor out of seeing a REAL piece

Have a few oil companies ashtrays around and my daughter wanted to know what they were. Hadn't really given much thought to it that she wouldn't have ever seen them in use because we all grew up with ashtrays all around us.Every store, shop, and house had them. In a few years, people won't have any idea how common these advertising items were.only ones I have seen lately advertise beer. Had a chuckle awhile back was looking through the wedding gift list from my folks marriage in 47 and there were two ashtrays listed. can't imagine what kind of social faux pas that would be today to give an ashtray for a wedding gift.

First, Thank you db for the correction. I wish a moderator would change the TITLE of the thread to: Paper clip holder.

Second, Thank you, Don, for sharing your ash trays with us. Man, a visit is a must to see your collection. Glad you live in Oregon!

Lastly, if repro of these exit, then, here is your chance db to find one & yank the nozzle for your project. wink
