It is just a tin top some call a Chinaman hat.

Curled over on outer edge then has a raised bump in the middle and no globeholder, usually unless it has a lightbar.

Ranchpump has posted his Seaside (very nice) on here (somewhere) with good pics.

There were a couple of different type of Boyle-Daytons made. do you have a cut or model number?

If your pump is a cut 83 or 79 or similar here's what the top of the cylinder looks like. On the accompanying diagram you'll see that on top of the cast-iron ring (C-673-A)there is a glass cylinder cover plate (M-650-A) that is about 1/8th inch thick and zinc-plated. See the poor photo of a pump top with the plate in place.

Reread your post..
The top or hat has 3 formed sheetmetal brackets spotwelded on, that center and hold up the top.

I think you are only missing the top..

I got the tin top with it. it has no tabs, but it had two small screw holes on top. It was just setting on top. it has the ring that holds the cylinder and all the rods but it is open in the middle and has a row of bolt holes around it. i figured what ever was bolted there also held the top. as for the tag, it had no sheet metal so i had to just look at pictures untill i figured out what it was and it also had a B-D on the pump. Mine is a little different as mine has a place for only two gallon markers. thanks for the picture ranchpump those look like what i need. where did you get the picture with the parts break down? thanks for the pics.

Here is a picture of the top of my pump. The piece that you are missing is probably the middle one. You could make one out of 1/8" steel The3 caps on top are vent caps so you could probably get away with not putting them on. I use a stud bolt to connect my top bonnet.

Here is a picture of my top bonnet. Dodo is correct about the spacer bracket. Mine was missing it also so I cut a piece of black 3" PVC pipe to the heigth I needed then put a brass acorn nut on top. Hope this helps. Richard

Actually there are 3 pcs of formed sheet metal spotwelded to the bonnet, that hold it off the top casting. At least they are on some.

Of 3 tops I had. one was missing those pieces, every top had different hole patterns in the top.

The spacer pipe is the easy solution.

To make your top piece try this. Put a piece of paper(plain is best) over the top Cast Iron casting. Tape or hold the paper still and run the pencil sideways over to boltholes and inspection hole. Then transfer to your metal, 1/16th or thicker would do it.

Here's what the inside of the dome looks like. Note the 3 stamped brackets that Dodogas mentioned. Also shown is the cast globe-holder-light bar bracket. These are usually unavailable, so attach the globe to the bonnet via an aluminum globe holder available from Vic's Place or others. Also note how easy it is to provide a lamp socket for the globe light. Rice99, I got the pump diagram from a Wayne manual I got from eBay.

I know that a universal dome is available from Gaspump Heaven, but where can I get a Chinaman cap for my cut 83?

I also just got a Boyle Dayton. What I am looking for is the ring that holds the cylinder down like the silver painted one in one of your pictures. If anyone knows where I can get one please e-mail me. Thanks
