Sometime's I drill a hole but first I look for any other access available as a lot of bases have a notch at the bottom for air/moisture to escape when they were set. Also I have notched a rear door or panel and had the cord come out above the base.

Thanks
Mike

I always have the power cord come out of the base and use a rubber grommet. I drill the hole prior to having the base painted.

I run it through the base. I'm not gonna drill a hole in a side panel that I just spent several hours on to get it straight and hang true, but that's just me.
