the 850 i just purchased ( posted in showcase and stories) has a row of perferated holes around the top and bottom of the lower skins. they appear to be factory done ,as they are straight and evenly spaced. i just dont remember seeing this on any other 850's. am i wrong? any thoughts on why they did this? thanks dave ps GREAT SITE!!

My 850 has vent holes too..I think the older models have the holes that some visible pumps have too.

...my 850 has the same vent holes...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Lots of TOKHEIMs have the vent holes in the sheetmetal. Great HABITAT FOR YELLOW JACKETS, WASPS & SPIDERS ! BECAREFULL in the summer months moving one of these pumps. DB

My TOKHEIM 850 that Dad got from a gasoline distributor for $50 in 1951 for farm use had no holes in the skins but had a BIG problem of vapor locking on a hot summer day. We used to have to remove the skin and pour a bucket of cold water over the plumbing to get the pump to pump. We put up with this problem until it was replaced with a newer (70s TOKHEIM) in the early 80s. My 850 was made in 1935 and think maybe the holes were drilled in later models as to maybe eliminate this problem. I'm sure someone on here knows the answer for sure. As many times as we took the skin off, it's amazing that it wasn't left off permanently like many of the other doors, blown away or got covered up.

Dave, Nice score on the 850! My favorite pump. I noticed your pump has a 2 piece lower skin with the two halves bolted together. Mine is a one piece that has a full length hinge and a clasp at the top middle and bottom but no bolts or holes drilled. Does yours have a serial number plate? I'm not home right now but will email you my serial number to see whose is older if you're interested. Rod

STANDARD OIL used a 7" holder for the CROWN globes, most everyone else used the 6".
Buy a repo in the size you want and drill to fit your top. db
Just looked in Showcase at your pump, IT HAS A 6" GLOBE HOLDER. What is NOT LINEING UP ?
