I thought you folks that collect vintage toys could recommend a modern metal toy (do they still make them?) and a decent plastic toy. I'm looking for about a 10 inch garbage truck with moving parts for my 5 year old nephew.
Saw reviews on the Bruder trash truck that said it was too flimsy and the moving parts broke easily.
Any suggestions on modern brands/manufacturers?
It's very depressing. Everything I look at the customer reviews say they fall apart. IF not garbage trucks, any other suggestions? He has the buldozers, dump trucks, front end loaders already.

Nylint(if they're still around) made some quality trucks. I remember when I was about 8 or 9 ( which was approx 10years ago) I got a tow truck with moving tow hooks and all that and it was nice.

But if you read the reviews they say that's not a toy, but a model instead.

they are heavy TOYS, they are NOT collectables as they try to get people to believe, and most models are Plastic. I have seen these and they are a very well built sturdy diecast truck with lots of moving parts

Nicole my grandson has the 1st gear A 1 3/4. He got it for xmas at 3 years. Had no promblem playing with it,although it was tuff to keep it away from the grown ups. It is nice truck, and had no idea it cost as much as the link here says. Guess I need to go shopping with santa next year.

Thanks for the help. Will stop by Toys-R-Us tomorrow and look around, but right now I am leaning towards the metal one...he will be 5 and already seems to be an engineer, so I think he would like that one the best. Hopefully it will stay together!
Thanks again!
