Uploaded with ImageShack.usThese pictures were taken from an article in the "SHELL NEWS" summer of 1998 magazine.Later they were in "CHECK THE OIL" magazine June of 1999.Hard to see,the 1925 Pecten has 15 "flutes" with a curved broken line near the bottom. In 1930 the Pecten has 13 "flutes".I have seen a larger Shell sign with 13 "flutes" dated 1929 so these dates may not be true in all cases.

Hawkike, Thanks for posting this, I have one of the 20's signs that I have been trying to find a date on for a long time. And yes, my vote is for the 20's style too. Tony

I have a sign that is fiberglass material/ plastic that is boxed as the 1963 sign, does this chart apply to this type of sign. Allways wondered what years this sign was produced,I don't collect Shell ,but got it in a bundle buy.
EDIT- I went and looked at this sign again it doesn't have shell wrote out,so I guess I date it by the lines in clam, thanke anyway ,wish I could post pics.

Uploaded with ImageShack.usThis is a good example of a Shell 2 sided "paddle" sign from the 20'S era.Note the bracket on the right hand side.15 flutes and the broken curved line near the bottom.

Interesting to see the earlier 1912 version. Wonder how the 1915 version came to be as it doesn't seem to fit in with the overall evolution of the clam shell design.
