I am building up a couple of Martin and Schwartz model 80 pumps and I am looking at paint schemes. I am not worried about the pump police, but I would like them to be reasonably OK, something that is "period correct" for the theme. I like the Gilmore colors, but I read that the company was pretty much gone in the mid forties. Would a model 80 be too far off in those colors?

Thanks,

Doc

Time line, yes. BUT if it makes you happy to Hell w/ Pump Police. I've seen worse, 50's-60's pumps done in GILMORE & other companies that were long gone Before their pump was made!

Actually, one is a tall pump and one is a short pump. Both have the sight glass in the top section and no ad glass.

Thanks,

Doc

If you are doing Gilmore I would use the tall one.

Check out the MS 80's we've restored. You'll get a bunch of color options. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Thanks for all of the feedback. I believe that my pumps are the same other than the height of the base. Any reason why they offered the two models?

Thanks,

Doc

Different companies required different looks. Standard wanted the tall base cyclops with the 7 inch globe ring for their crowns. Mobil wanted the script top, along with Sunoco and Conoco. The kidney adglass top was used by Conoco and Sunoco as a different version. These are just a few of the companies, off the top of my head. Surely there were a lot more. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I guess that all happened before the age of standardization. M&S pumps came in such a wide variety of styles. The base changes, the sight glass location changes, the tops change, etc. I assume that other manufacturers did the same. Clearly before the age of bean counters.
