I saw these at Hershey. The labels were in various conditions, oil soaked, torn and missing pieces. How can you tell there fakes?

Saw a lot of great signs as well but didn't buy anything because I could not be sure the stuff was original. I try to buy from old gasser's only and even that is beginning to concern me. If it continues, and I'm sure it will, I may just stick to pumps!!!

All my original oil "jars" have the liquid measurement lines embossed in the glass....looks like an old Miracle Whip jar to me!

Originals in that condition should have FREEDOM Printed lids & a line as Darin stated.
Maybe Ryan will post a picture of a Known original.

Seller above that Ryan posted link to has Sold 2 FAKE SHELL Bottles, here is one of them; 110941656563. Sold for $249, OUCH!

I know of two different (real) jars that freedom used. There is a common short jar, similar to the one this thread is about, and a taller skinnier version. I have both and will get some pictures up tomorrow.

I got taken, fortunately no where near what was paid for the Shell bottle. Another lesson learned.

This is the second time in my 17 years in the hobby that I've purchased a fake and both of them have been bottles. The first was a Tiolene bottle. I have to admit they did a good job of faking the Freedom bottles when your knowledge is limited but when I got it home the shape of the bottle was clearly off.

Looks like I have to go out in the garage and break my most recent purchase, don't want my kids selling it as an original someday!!

Those bottles are everywhere now. Ive ssen them at all the shows, antique malls, personal collections. I saw a 6 pack of those phony hudsons for $850 at heshey.

I bought some of them for sure and posted them on here under botw. now that i am reading this thank goodness i didnt pay anywhere near what he wanted. Perhaps because they were still sitting there late wed, should have been a sign something was up and why the price was far lower than i expected. Of course i am disappointed, but i guess lesson learned. If anything good can come of it for someone else to not learn the hard way, like i just did, then i guess i can take some comfort in that it might help someone else. It is a shame so many dishonest people are out there. I wont let this sadden me too much, but i certainly feel duped.

Another good reason to ask sellers for a receipt w/ sellers name, address [& vech. Lic. # @ swap meets] on it. The threat of a small claims court date just might be enough for seller to return $$$ & also prove that you didn't steal an item [a picture w/ seller & Item would/could also help you in court].

It's a shame it's all coming down for US to Prove where/how you/we acquired an Item.
