Its been a few weeks, so I thought I'd try this one again. I am searching for a larger showcase type pump, such as a Wayne 50 or Tokheim ADC or something of that nature! I'm not in a big hurry as I have pump projects stacked all over my shop but I better get started because this may take some time!
I'm sure willing to pay a finders fee or give a profit to someone that can negotiate a deal for me! I'd just like to have one before I get too old to enjoy it! LOL
SO GET BUSY AND FIND ME A PUMP! cool

Several members have contacted me with bits of information and are still looking for a pump for me and I appreciate it!
What started all this was my knee surgery and the realization that I'm not getting any younger---soooooo if I want to be able to enjoy one in my lifetime, I'd better start looking as it may take a while!
I have a high school buddy that has one in original condition and he had informed me just before surgery, that he was planning on putting it on ebay! Well, I hurried over and after some long negotiations, found out that his expectations weren't very realistic and that I could probably give up on that pump. I had always hoped he would tire of it and maybe need the cash one day, but it has never happened and I don't see it happening soon. I called him the other day and asked what happened to his ebay plans, and he said that the east coast hurricane had shut down that idea for now. If he ever does list it, I'll post the sale number on here for the membership.
I keep hoping that the next time I walk into someones barn to look at an old pump, that one will be staring me in the face!! LOL Keep dreaming for now, I guess!

So what should a pump like this realistically be priced at?

Yes, thats the one. I thought he was going to call when he finally listed it, but I'm glad you guys brought it to my attention. I had always thought I'd be able to buy it from him but he wants to try this avenue, and who knows, he might get it sold?
He found it in a junkyard many years back and wasn't even sure what it was when he bought it. LOL He thought it might even be a candy machine or something for sales items anyway! He brought it home and its been in his garage ever since.
His biggest problem is that he saw one sell at Barrett-Jackson for $18,500 several years ago and when he started exploring values, he found one online for $28,000. This kind of set the bar for him.
I'm going to bid on it but I'm sure I won't be winning this one! LOL It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Kevin knows how good it is but as mentioned above, the pictures are not good. I would say it is a 10-12K pump. The last one I seen for sale had a 15K ashing price and I think it sold for less. It will be fun to see how high it goes. Hope you end up with it Kevin.

Well, I didn't want to say anything until it was a for sure deal! As most of you know, the Wayne 50 showcase that was on ebay last week, was owned by a high school chum of mine and I had been trying to buy it for the last 7 years! I bought my first pump from the same guy and he had found them all in a scrap yard here in North Dakota! He had always claimed that he would probably never sell it but said he would contact me when he did! He called me out of the blue during the first part of november and informed me that he planned on putting it on ebay. I rushed right over to his house and spent the next 2 hours explaining why he should not do that and why he should sell it to me! Nothing worked and he did post a sale ad on ebay last week, and there was about a day left on the auction when it happened!
He called me and explained that he was having second thoughts about the ebay sale auction and was thinking about pulling the sale. He then asked if my offer from 2 weeks previous was still open, and of course I replied that it was indeed. He said that if I would purchase it for my earlier offer, he would pull the auction and I could have the pump!
Well, I was still a little leery, even after he had pulled the auction and was not going to celebrate until I had paid for the pump and the deal was final! We had agreed to meet on monday and this afternoon I drove over and paid the man, and the pump is now officially mine!
Quite a journey of 7 years and I'm still not sure why he did what he did, except that he said he had thought about it long and hard and had decided he wanted me to have this pump! Knowing the history and story behind this pump just makes it all the more special for me! I can't wait until next summer to get started restoring it! Thanks to all that helped!

Great news Kevin, glad it worked it out for you. I think you made a real impression on him. I talked to him a few times and for some reason he just wasn't ready to part with it. Seems that reason was you! Nice to see good things happen to nice people for the right reasons. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I'm truly happy to be able to purchase it and start the restoration. I paid him for it but I believe I'll let it sit for a month or so, at least until I'm moving around a lot better.
I know that if I bring it home, I'll be wanting to strip parts off it and get going on it and I'm not ready for that yet! LOL

Good for you Kevin.
I always say,if you have to sell an item you most admire, sell it to people you know and are close to you.
Then it doesn't really feel like you've sold it. wink

I'd recommend resting that sore knee - those things are HEAVY!! Although I don't know if I could wait to bring home a prize like that. Maybe the day after Christmas would be good? That is a very nice solid restorable pump, it will be a great winter restoration project! Enjoy.

Kevin, great pump going to a great home. However, if you want me to come and get it, store and admire it until you get around better just let me know.
