Hello Everyone!

My class and I are still finishing up the Erie 71 we've been working on, but I wanted to get the hunt started for our next project.

The Ag Teacher here at school has a Fry 117 that he wants to get restored. It has been sitting on his family farm since it was new, which I think is really cool.

He would like an original glass cylinder for the pump -- the one that was in it was cracked and had a bunch of BB holes in it.

He understands that original cylinders are expensive and tough to come by and is prepared for that.

If anyone out there has one / knows of one for sale, please let me know. Thanks again for all the support!

Chris

Is it possible to cut a cylinder that is the right diameter, but too long down to the correct length?

I've seen posts here where people have mentioned that, but I don't have any idea how you would go about cutting one.

Is it worth the risk of breakage?

Thanks!
Chris

The restoration of this pump is coming along nicely, but we still haven't had any luck locating a 10 gallon glass cylinder. Anybody out there have one for sale / or know of one?

Thanks,
Chris

I just noticed that this 117 has the round lower doors. I have never seen an animal like this. I always thought that the round doors were only on the early 17s ( 5 gallon). Anyone else?

Dave, the 17/117's w/ cast base used the same base & upper sheet metal/cast body.

Chris, I've not seen a 13 5/8" FRY cylinder Taller than 22".

Warren aka Swabby on this site might be able to help you as he cuts new glass cylinders.

Hello Mr. Bennett,
I appreciate the info. I have not come across a 117 with this setup.
Thanks,
Dave

Ive had a couple and seen a couple more here in Mt. They also came with a one piece cast top on all the ones ive seen. I think they are real early. The only tin on them is the middle skins.Even the globe holder/ cup is cast! Extremely heavy pumps.
