I looked back 10 years and could not find an official FATW thread on Route 66. I would like to start an official thread on FATW items on Route 66.

Here is my first contribution:

1576 National Old Trails Road, Needles, CA

Located about 15 miles east of Amboy, Ca. at Cadiz Summit.

Used to be a gas station and restaurant. I have not been able to find out the name/brand it was.

In 2009 we traveled to New Mexico. It was a quick trip but made a few stops. Here are a few from Golden Shores. It is just past the Calif border. Linda`s has a great garlic burger. The last picture is on the way to Oatman. I will post more later.

Here are some pictures of Oatman Arizona. It was a mining town. There has been someone living in this town sense back in the day, so it was never completely abandoned. When the mine was closed they left donkeys that they used to fend for them selves. They survived and there has been wild donkeys up to the present. They come into town and people feed them.

This station looks like one just north of Carthage, MO. Next to the Kendrick House. I lived in Carthage for about 16 years.

A trip thru Arizona/California/Nevada/New Mexico on 66 a few years back. Can't wait to go back when we have more time to stop and look more.
Also A sign I brought back and put on one of my buildings.

Excellent thread Mike!

I've been lucky enough to travel most of 66. Lived in a few towns on it as a youngster and as a young adult....

I have always loved "The Mother Road"... I have a number of DVDs about the road... The one by Martin Milner is one of my favorites.....

And of course have read John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath" (love the movie with Henry Fonda) and "Travels with Charlie"...

(and even though the TV show traveled all over the US... I also have the first couple of years of Route 66 on DVD....LOL)

Looks like a nice safe place...that donation jar would disappear pretty quick in most places today.

AZ is an open carry state. Crooks know this too. It has definitely helped with crime here. I love these small towns on 66, brings you back to a simple time. I can only imagine living out there 60-80 years ago when 66 was hummin.

Pretty sure I know where that Skelly sign pole is. Looks like the Northview exit west of Marshfield.
