is it possible to tell the difference between old original signs vs repo signs? i see alot of porcelain signs that look too new for me, not to mention the low prices.

Wow that facebook link is pretty cool!
I didn't know this interesting piece of information:
"but anytime you run acroos a porcelain sign that has a backing that feels like 1000 grit sand paper. . .ALWAYS a reproduction. 100% fact. no matter where they found it, or what bs story the want to stick behing it. Sandpaper back = FAKE"
Now I don't facebook so I really dont understand that page or how it works. Who puts that information up there? Just the guy who's page that is?

I wondered this concern aswell. Thats why when I purchase stuff that I believe is real I always like it to show a little oringality wear or rust on edges.
As the saying goes if something looks too good to be true it probably is. In some cases, i pass up considering stuff, that i see at flee markets or kijiji for this reason.
Also from what i learned on this site to look in the stamp mark on the trademark signs. and the groment rings on the signs aswell from repop to original

A company called Ande Rooney has been making repro porcelain signs since the 80's maybe earlier. More recently there have been other folks making larger fake signs selling them as Vintage to the unsuspecting buyers on ebay....making it difficult for novice buyers to tell if it's real or not based on the make-up stories the seller whips up for a quick/high dollar sale for non-authentic junk!
As for the Ande Rooney signs....they are rough like sandpaper on the back and most always have a sticker of substantial size stating it's a reproduction. If the sticker isn't there, there's usually a ghost of where it was.

Ande Rooney, AAA Sign Co., Desperate Enterprises, Marty Mummert all make or made repops of vintage signs (I think AAA went OOB in the mid-90s). At least you will see their names on such signs.
