What is the best way to remove clear coat from a porcelain sign without damaging the porcelain underneath ? I have a great porcelain sign that was obviously painted over at some point and re-branded/labeled (by an auto shop) using who knows what kind of paint and then some time later was "cleaned off" but not completely....then I assume to "brighten" things up they clear coated the sign which is presentable but could be way better.......I want to remove the clear, then clean the sign properly and then go from there...........any ideas ??????

Paint stripper/thinner. If it is porcelain it wont hurt it a bit. IF IT IS PAINTED TIN IT WILL DESTROY IT. Do a small test spot. Porcelain is just like glass so you can't hurt it too bad..

Be careful over any Repaired areas as the stripper will remove.

I go to the local NAPA store and buy the "Heavy Duty" in an aerosol can. They used to have an "AERO" stripper but don't seem to carry it anymore?? Anyway, get the heavy duty stuff and use the aerosol for ease of application! How about pictures when you're done? before and after is always nice!

Ask Ryan or Jim, if the stuff they use on plastic bumper covers would turn it loose. Not sure what it was they was using. Pretty amazing stuff.

IF it's that thick, it should pop off in large Chucks, 3 6pks & a Large Hammer!
