Does the fact that there were 10,000 oil companies in 1930 compared to 10 today, have anything to do with it?
see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

Gas here is $2.99 a gallon. Based on inflation in 2011 dollars, gas that was $1.00 in 1979 would be $3.05 today. So, based on that, we are doing better...LOL

It might work out to be the same but the difference is that in 1911 and before, only people of a certain ammount of wealth were able to afford a vehicle until model Ts came along. Motor vehicles were very expensive and so the fuel that made them go was priced as such for a luxury item. Enter Model T's and it became more affordable for every man to buy a car and then gas was deemed a ok expense even tho it was still priced as a luxury item, much like it is today still. The problem is that it has become a neccesity for most now compared to back then when most people never even would leave their county during their lifetimes. Now it is common for people to commute 40 miles each way, each day for their jobs, something not possible back then.
... it is good info to see tho, thanx for posting it. The "lipstic on a cow" comment on there cracked me up.

Another difference is , there weren't many spending $60.00 at a time to fill their SUV's. But those old cars only gave 8-14 MPG.

It's simply greed, on the oil companies part. You can sugar coat it however you like.

Been a Ford man my whole life so I have to say the first year for the Model T was 1908. My Father had a Sunoco station back in the 60's and I remember pumping gas at that time and up until the gas rationing in early 70's at .29 to .37 cents a gallon. Also remember my Dad saying on a good day he was making .10 cents a gallon profit. I later took over that gas station and added a couple more up until 2001 when I sold out to a large PA oil company. In all those years I only avg. 8-10 cents a gallon profit. It goes to show you that with all the taxes added on and so forth the only ones really making the bucks is the refiners.

None of this is making me feel better.
If they can explain why in 2000 diesiel was 1.35 and gas was 2.50 And today its 3.94 and gas is 3.29 I will listen. Cheepest grade of fuel there is to produce.

It's still cheaper to buy Gas at the convenient/fueling Stations than Bottle water [@ $1 a pt, that's $8 a gal for bottle water, more for Beer] vs $5.169 in L.A. a gal for Gasoline.
