Hey guys question on 12x18
Fire chief pump plate. A friend
Of mine turned me on to
A 9/56 dated pump plate
Not sure if real or fake
Were these plates dated
Reproduction and how
can u tell if real. Thanks

They are not real thick, and yes they should be porcelain in that size.
Post photos and that would help the most

mine is dated 9/40 my pump is a 1939 mine is crusty but I like it , if this is the same one you are talking about im assuming mine is original to my pump ,,,

Never seen a tin Fire_ Chief pump plate. They were all porcelain

I would walk away from it and find a nice porcelain one. They are in just about every antique store.

try to put this as nicely as possible...

but I wouldn't buy any signs til I learned the difference between porcelain and painted tin.....it is absolutely critical to know the difference....

I think it was in a post by Don "5quart" a couple of years back where we discussed and it was shown a lot of info on the fake Texaco pump plates - anyone can find that one?

The manufacturers used a thinner guage metal has the years went along. A 1950 pump plate is usually thicker than a 1960.
