I went to a swap meet last weekend in Wichita and noticed a Hayes pump on which the name was misspelled(HAYSE)on the door casting. My Hayes pumps are all correct. Maybe this is like a mistamped coin or stamp and is worth a fortune. Not likely.

I'd bet it was a REPOP door. Back then & same today, Companies cared about their name & products.

I was thinking the same thing DB. The letters look a bit crude. I think the originals are more crisp.

My HAYES SENIOR 15gal has a lot more detailed cast door. That is the difference your door has the name cast into it like mine. The picture above has Hayes spelled wrong on a riveted on tag. Looks cheap

It may be one solid piece and cast and what you are seeing is a casting made with the plate actually riveted on the pattern itself. I did this many times with a label maker when I worked in a foundry. We would take a customers name off of a pattern(if they did not own it)and put another's name on it...very simply and easily done. It happens. GM sent cars into the public with "oldsmobile" spelled wrong on the badges in mid 1980's
see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.
