Hello everyone... I have early memories of some gas pumps (late 50's, early 60's) of that had 3 balls in the site glass that would swirl around when you were pumping. What pumps had these and where would one find these balls? I've researched the internet and have basically confirmed that I wasn't dreaming this but have not been able to find any details. I'm curious as I've just recently purchased my first gas pump (a Tokheim short 39 circa 1959) and the site glass has nothing in it... but it sure looks like the pumps I remember.

My Gilbarco pump did not come with a site-glass, it was a farm unit. I installed a site-glass and used red marbles to simulate the balls that they used to use back then. Hope this helps.

Other than www.thepumpdump.com (out of stock), is anyone aware of who carries these balls? What material were they made of? What diameter, colors, did they float or sink, etc.? I think the marble idea was good (size & color wise) but don't know how well they'd behave in a working pump.

I've done a few Tok short 39's and none of them had the balls in them. They all had a spinner, four blades as I remember. As for a "working pump",I can't help you there;never done one.Best of luck.

Walmart toy section. Marbles of many colors and sizes. Your choice. The majority, of originals, that I have seen were red/brown in color. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

...I'm sure the originals were plastic...think about it: having glass swirling around in a sight glass would have been any number of accidents waiting to happen...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
