Sorry if this has been covered before, I wasn't able to find any thread that covered this particular question. Can anyone suggest a cleaner that will remove the rust colored stains on the faceplate pictured. I've used all the typical cleaners inclusing bar keepers friend, soft scrub and others that I've had good luck with. This isn't like the typical rust around screw holes or porcelain damage, it's more of a stain. Any help would be appreciated. Mike

Alumabrite cleaning solution for aluminum. Has mild acid amount for the rust. Spray on and let sit for a few minutes and wash off. If still there, redo. Final wash with a solution of baking soda and water 80% water 20% soda to nuetralize acid.

Let us know if it works. I don't think that is rust but stains from gas leaking out from the sight glass.

What worked for me on the Dutch Boy Paints sign is Clorox tough toilet bowl stain remover that is for toilets with mineral stains like rust. It whitened the porcelain that was white and did not fade the red or blue and dark blue colors of porcelain I put it on. I think I got it at Walmart. I would put it on and leave it on the white parts for a little while and see the results.
I am probably going to do it to the face plates of the Erie 77A.
Hope that helps!!

I use Zud all the time on porcelain with a blue scotch brite sponge. Sometimes it takes a lot of scrubbing but it will take the rust off.

PS... I stole the image off the web. Free add for the product !!!!
