So my Brother in Law sends me this pic of a PPP he bought. Soon as I saw the seemingly artificial rust stains I got a little scared for him.
So is this thing real or repop?
I've told him a million times to join this site before he goes spending money on this stuff. I hope he didn't mess up!!

Looks like a sign from India or Argentina, I've seen many of these on ebay. Fake in my opinion. Ted

So it's fake. I pretty much thought so as soon as I saw it!! I've told him a million times!!! Join the site before you buy anything outside of an oil can!!

In fact, isn't the "Reg T M" vs the "Reg U.S. Pat. Off." one of the things that helps date these pieces? Isn't there some known date point when this changed?

Love "the real McCoy" pic Randy smile

There is a small porcelain Mobil sign w/ pegasus that is very similar to this Texaco (its also dated to deceive...its a repop)...Hopefully he didnt pay too much - if he bought it on ebay tell him to send it packin back to seller.

There's lots of original Texaco signs where the black surrounds the entire T, starting in the early 30's. In other words. Your statement is false.

U.S. REG. PAT. OFF. = 1920's and earlier

REG. T.M. = 1930 and newer

FINALLY TEXACO NEVER MADE A 11 3/4" OR 12" PLATE "NEVER" !!!!!!

THEY MADE 8", 10", AND 15" PLATES

I HOPE NEW COLLECTORS SAVE THIS. IT'S BEEN POSTED FOR ALL THE YEARS I'VE BEEN ON HERE, AND I'M SURE WELL BEFORE THAT.

I knew I had seen this sign on Ebay . I searched completed listings for this sign .I could not find it under gas and oil signs .I did find it though-under decorative collectibles .The seller sold it as a decoration ,and plainly said they had no idea how old it was.the seller said it was 9" in the listing .Looks like he paid slightly over 50 bucks for it .

I saw that sign on Ebay ,and almost bid on it .The sign was listed as a decorative collectible .The listing said 9" .The lady said she had no idea how old it was,and did not claim it was real .I thought it would make a good decoration ,but it was obvious that it was not a real Texaco .
