Picked up this Michelin man figure the other day. Trying to figure out what this was used for and if it is original. From what I have found out is sounds like it was a counter top display. It looks to have had some sort of mounting bracket on the bottom at one time. It is made of heavy plastic and has no markings. I see a lot repros on Ebay but none like this one. It measures about 18 inches tall. I am inclined to believe this one is original.
Any thoughts if this is original or what it was used for??

those were made to be mounted on the top of michelin truck's cabin, be careful there a lot of reproduction I think your's is original with the mounting hole on the bottom and also the look of it, it looks like from the 1970's for michelin, there is this forum with a lot of nice pics http://www.forum-auto.com/automobiles-mythiques-exception/section5/sujet380725.htm and this one : http://bibcrazy56.skyrock.com/

Thanks for the pictures and info. Liked the link to the website on these even if I couldn't read it. My figure looks like it has been mounted as it is yellowed on the outside but is not where it was mounted and protected which makes me believe it is original also.

Keithia, if your French is rusty or non-existent, google translator is very nice... Click on the top bar that says 'more' and just copy and paste. I'm in the very rusty category and think the translators have come a long way. Cool Michelin Man thread Nucky! When I was little I always thought Bibendum was a little scary though...

I have an original one in my collection that has the mount. It wont be easy, but I can get you a picture of the mount if needed. If I remember correctly, the mount looked easy to make.
FREEDOM oil items wanted.
