Every summer during school break I take the kids to the river and we fish, swim and gather large limestone flat rock to make flower beds, last summer no floods so no rock, but with recent spring floods this year, its going to be a good year , the smaller flower bed we built last weekend. The larger one was completed summer before last. On vacation next week and this is what I will be doing . This also gets us some good brownie points with the wife which = more toys for ME the kids !

Flower beds look great! That's a lot of limestone to transport and place. Awesome looking property, in a park like setting.

Looks good, careful raising the dirt line around your trees, you might kill them.

Folks forget that roots need Oxygen. You should be ok with the big tree because the roots that need O2 are the small ones further out==as long as you didn't cut roots to put the rocks in, or keep the soil super wet all the time which would rot the bark off the tree flange.

Need some cacti in the big front bed though... smile

Thanks all , Nicole we are going to plant this weekend I like the cacti idea , my wife has some on the porch and they seem to repel the kitty's as well, as they like to tear up her flowers.

I gotta warn ya, (and this from someone whose husbands cactus bed has a larger footprint than her house) weeding cacti is a B. Have tweezers handy and a hemostat clamp (it clamps when you let it go) for the process. If you use weed killer for the weeds around it, some can be sprayed right over the plant, but test on a small area first, and note that the new growth in spring may be damaged while the old growth will not.

Hope you have good planting weather! smile
