I just purchased a Southwest Model 72CR-1 and the ID plate is missing. I removed the computer and the Veeder Root RP No. is 389171. Can an approximate pump date be made with this RP No. There the following part numbers, but may not help with dating the pump:
TD-5807 1
GW-27737-1
GW-73037
TD-13082
I believe the Model 72CR-1 was built between 1948 and 1954.

SW-72CR was made in 1948 & maybe for a few years. Most pump Models were made for a few years, unlike autos that changed every year.
The Veeder-Root Calculator was the 2nd most Replaced item on a pump. 1st was the nozzle.
VERY Very few pumps found today still have an original Style VR, most were replaced w/ an up-dated version. Pumps that originally from the factory had Flat Wheels now have Embossed wheels in the VR.

Thank you for the information. Since VR did not date this computer, I will probably never know if it is the original computer. By embossed I assume you mean ridges and depressions in the aluminum wheels. My computer certainly has that type of wheels.

Read the Totalizer wheels for the Total Gallons pumped [small wheels in center of face on one side].
W/O knowing exactly how many gallons a VR dispensed before needing a re-built, I'll guess 10,000gal. The VR would be swapped out & Your Totalizer wheels reinstalled. So the VR might have been swapped out bi-yearly, yearly, 3 years etc. It all depended on the Volume being pumped.
I'll bet it's NOT the Original VR, but can be the Original Style.

Your pump was born in 1950, probably during the last four months.

The bottom totalizer is at 50,520 gallons. With that total, original VR for the pump?
Jack, I assume you dated the pump using the VR ID No.
Thanks to all for the information. I started on Saturday knowing zero about Southwest Model 72CR-1 pumps, but learning a little each day.
I learned that the two hose guards, the long aluminum edge pieces that protected the paint from the hose, were anodized to harden the aluminum. Until I sanded off the anodized layer, I could not polish the aluminum. The other aluminum parts, what few there are, are not anodized.
