It appears that the world and arrow pointing SW were nickel plated only, not chrome plated. Can anyone confirm nickel or chrome plating? The emblems are made of brass.

I am going to try and re-plate them and also figure out how to add the red background paint on one and black background paint on the other. It is not porcelain as it scratches off with a fingernail. Any suggestions?

Look at the plating. if it has a bluish tint it is chrome. If it has a yellowish tint it is nickel. Chrome was not used very extensively until the 1950's. Chrome was basicly a byproduct of World War II though used lightly before that. Mitch

Thanks Mitch. The pump was made between 48 and 54; so it could have been chrome. Based on the deteriorated finish, I can't say it is bluish or yellowish.
