Picked this old Mobilfuel Diesel Sign up this weekend. A little rough but still a neat old sign. I have not been able to find even another picture of one in my books or on the web.
Is this a hard one to come by.
It is a 30" size, painted not porcelain (sure wish it had been porcelain, maybe it would have lasted better).
Anyway any infomation on this would help me. Tell me all you know

thanks
Don

Hi Don,
I have not seen that sign before myself. The Mobilfuel Diesel globe of similar design dates from 1935-1962 according to the globe book. While I can spot 2 holes on either side, I could picture that piece as a curb sign due to the size, being double sided, and the obvious shape. The material also makes sense IMO, as there were far less stations selling diesel fuel, so making them in tin was a lot less expensive than having porcelain signs made. I have never seen one in any period photos. I can't really see it being a reproduction item personally, but maybe someone else has some more information or has seen one.

Darin
thanks for the reply.
I did find some numbers on one side and it looks like it was made in 1949 (maybe) hard to read.
Again I think it is a neat old sign.
Sure would like to see a picture of a good one

thanks
Don
