If it's Phosphoric acid based , I'm not surprised . That type of rust remover is quite harsh on paint. Try Molasses , yes , I'm quite serious ! Ed Shaver
see ya on the road folks !

I just bought "The Works" It is intended as a toilet cleaner comes in the type bottle with the slanted snout. WILL absolutely take the rust off. It is amazing and cheap. It will be in the cleaner section at HomeDepot and Lowes.
Has anyone else used it. It is caustic..but has to be

Just porcelain Kevin and its caustic. My wife dropped a small drop on the carpet and it ate down to mat in about 2 seconds.

It is for rust removal. Don't know what it would do to paint or porcelain. It is 20% hydrogen chloride.. Gooood stuff, but nasty and quick.

Try a small container of Evapo-Rust. It has no caustic chemicals in it and it won't harm the paint. I don't know how it works, but a few hours soaking in it and rust is gone.

Hey Oilcanman, Ed is right, molasses and water works great! I had some small pump parts to get sandblasted but no time to get them there. Found this idea on you tube about mixing molasses and water about 10-1 .Put the parts in for 2 weeks and voila!!rust free! Be warned it stinks after awhile and draws alot of flies.I got some of it on my jeans when I was dumping it out and later my wife was asking why I stunk like hot garbage?? Lol Dave
