Found out recently that this old station and the Cardinal Diner were slated to be demolished soon, possibly to make way for a McDonalds. They stand across from the old Ashland plant. I used to stop at the diner for breakfast. Station was most recently a used car lot, I don't know what brand gas it once was.

I remember bumping into 5qt out front 15 years ago when he had the Suburban with the plywood Wanted sign on the back.

Not all Chimneys were attached to a fire place. Most were flues for a small stove either for cooking/heating or both.

Such a shame. All that stainless trim should be saved...as well as the front door. Imagine how many hands have touched it. Would be soooo kool incorporated into someone's garage. Wish I was closer.

Wow....very sad to see either building demolished. Both are super examples of their type, but being an art deco collector, it kills me to see all the diner go with all the great deco façade work. Someone should see if a movie set company were anywhere nearby to try and save all that. Seems like there could be some in New York? Sad, sad......the preservationist in me is dying to see this!

Darin I thought the very same about the façade, looks great and still in relatively good shape judging from the submitted pictures. However the land is likely very valuable and the building not..so the inevitable happens.

I wonder what the old gas station is being used for. Both the electric and the gas meter are still intact. Hmmmmmm

Went to pick an old abandoned farm today, and found the last remaining Supertest station in London, Ontario. I wanted to take a picture of the historical plaque....but some loser had stolen it!! It reminds me of the cottage style Phillips stations I saw on Route 66. Dave

How about a free service station? You just have to move it.

Hey, 60 Wayne...what are you doing in Montana??? I should recognize the station to be moved as that is a Butte phone number, but I am not recognizing it? Is that in Whitehall, MT???

Also, the Beacon Tire Store is inmy old hometown of Polson, MT. It was a Mobil oil station owned by a good friend's father, back in the day. There was a "treasure trove" (no exageration) of Mobil signs and Pegasuses taken out of that station after it closed. Wish I had collected back then. If you notice at the top of the building you see a white light. Hence the name Beacon...before radios, etc it was the light they would turn on to notify the police that there was an emergency somewhere. Old school bat-signal.

I flew from Boston to Denver. Then drove close to 40000 miles in two weeks threw CO., ID, MT., WY, SD, back to Denver then flew back to Boston for a day. Installed a hot water heater then got on a plane and went to Puerto Rico for a week. Back to Boston , a little work then back to Va. Late June threw early August and finally having some time to post the pictures I took. Had a great time seeing several of the National Parks and many adventures.

Ran up on this the other month. Swerved to miss some fallen rocks in the road but the pickup truck behind me hit one and lost a tire. The driver made it to this place. I asked the older women to pull to a flat spot near the Texaco signs and I would change the tire for her.

What a trip, she was drunk and had two dogs and a pistol on the seat. I wanted to do my good deed for the day and get away from this lady. 95 degrees. I was lucky I didn't get crushed, when I put the truck off the jack it started to roll. The lady had not put it in park before she got out. I was sitting on my butt holding onto the truck and yelling to my sister to jump in and put it in park.

The lady wanted to go another few hundred miles but I told her to go to the next town, spend the night and get a new rim and spare before going on. I wanted to make sure that I was not behind this drunk and took off.

I would have liked to have met the owner of this property but I was glad to get out of there with a few pictures and all my limbs. Traveling can be a real adventure, you never know what you will see or what can happen. I was pulled over buy a nice police officer a few hours later coming into MT. at 36 miles per hour. Did not even know. I was already stopped at a gas station and my sister was out the car headed to the restroom when I saw the lights. Just a pleasant warning to slow down.

I have to write a note on the problems OG has cost me while on the road. I am a no nonsense driver, driving from A-Z oblivious to all but the road and wheels around and in front of me. And I have a big bladder so I don't have to stop for 4 hours if I want! LOL. But now I have a swivel neck as I look at old buildings to see if they used to be gas stations. Yes, well then do the buildings have old pumps, old station lights, signs on poles, repurposed signs in frames on poles? Today we went out off our way to go to Ellensburg to eat the great burgers and see the signs and memorabilia at the Red Horse Drive Inn. That cost me an hour of my time. In the past I would've flown right by and missed all the sights. Pictures to follow.

I just recently traveled down to Spokane to pick up a sign that was shipped to Big Daddy Dave's place for me. He kindly accepted it and stored it while I found some time to make a small trip to pick it up. Thanks Dave. So while we were down there and scheduled to go see Dave's Garage in Abbottsford about another sign, we (the "warden" and I)decided to go to the Red Horse Diner in Ellensburg WA. We had the sign strapped to the roof top carrier and just before Moses Lake we noticed a sound and pulled over on a frontage road. The rack strut had come loose and we were in the process of unsuccessfully fixing it when a older lady pulls over and asks if we need help. She offered her husbands tools and garage. Well since we weren't getting anywhere fast I said yes to her offer. So we followed her to her home and got out to work on the rack and thanked her for the hospitality. Then this lady, named Linda, said she needed a diversion as her husband passed away last night! I asked what she was doing helping us in this circumstance? She stated she cried her tears, he had been ill for awhile and that it wasn't unexpected and she needed a break. So she offered her help. So we visited for awhile after fixing the rack and went on our way.
That was an amazing display of good old fashioned neighborly trust and aid, all while grieving for a good husband lost. Restores your faith in (wo)mankind as the news now a days is mostly about people behaving badly. Thank you Linda.
So we motored on successfully to Ellensburg and saw the Diner and had some nice burgers before getting back on the road to Abbottsford BC.

Back in the day, this was Buhler's Buick & Chevrolet dealership on Washingtom Avenue in Port Townsend, Washington. Cars were prepped in the basement of the building and then driven up to the showroom.

Here's an actual dealer inspection tag that was used when cars were serviced there.

Today this building houses Bergstrom's Classic Autos & Parts....and also includes some nice petroliana! Here's a couple of pix.

That nice old piece of iron on the right hand side is a 1928 Franklin - all restored to original & only $59,000 if your're interested laugh

Found some snow in the high country of Montana and an old BIG sign in Pocatello ID. The station is closed but there is another one of the same name in town.
