When did they change the maximum final value fee from $100 to $250?
What a rip off, they are only going to get more greedy and charge us more in the years to come.

I was floored when I saw how much my fees were on a recent sale.

Just had a pump sell and when everyone and I mean everyone saw how much their fees were and how the customer was charged for international fees. Everything was cancelled.

I am not defending ebay or any fee increases, but I just spoke with an antique mall on consigning a pump to them, they said their fee was 40%. they said pumps stay with them on average a week. When I asked if they would negotiate, they said...no. Ebay still looked like a bargain.

Exactly Alex,
Ebay charges 10% up to the max of $250. Include a listing fee and if you use Paypal fee for payment you still fall below what local auction houses, antique shops, consignment shops, etc charge.
To hit the max of $250 your item has to sell for $2500 or more. Now most people would call a 10% fee reasonable as a price of doing business on a world-wide scale.
Remember, you have no overhead besides that eBay fee structure. No brick and mortar location, etc.
Also, anyone who has sold at any show or in personal dealings of more than a few items, discounting a price 10% is common practice.
We all wish we could get the most for any item we sell, but to say it is somehow unfair for them to change their fee to forget the benefits you receive from their services. And remember, those fees are deductible expenses if you also show the profit/loss from online sales.

Ebay changed their fees with the spring seller update. Other issues such as ebay cases relating to buyer protection have also changed. The more you read into the details selling on ebay is risky even if your an honest seller. Ebay is trying to follow in Amazons path. Most of the time they always side with the buyer if an issue arises.

I'm amazed how many Buy It Now auctions I see on ebay today. Those were once few & far between, but now are the norm. Looks like sellers are just trying to get back what they paid for their items 5-7 years ago.
I agree with the Hemmings Motor News reference.

I only sell face to face and even at that I only sell doubles or what I've out grown in terms of my collection. I am also in agreement that the fee's are very modest and reasonable when compared to what antique malls, auction house and ect. charge.
Not many places are into customer service or value...most business models are about money only. Sadly, more and more this is the general direction that society is going in as a whole.

I agree Dave,
There are classes of unscrupulous and also under-educated sellers in society today. They have no instincts on valuation much of the time with the later group, and the former group only wants to sell the item for maximum profit. I recall a couple selling a 20 year old sign as "old" saying to them it was "old" and they were tickled they had pulled the wool over the buyer's eyes for a tidy profit.
I try to get an idea on value based on past experience, research, and talking to others. The last bit can be hazardous of course as some will low-ball others will high ball, and a trusted few with give honest opinions.
