I found a guy who has this pump in his barn. Said he'll sell it to me for $100. Still has all the guts in it, but he said he would gut it for me if I wanted. He used to have the globe on top, but said he accidentally broke it. Is this a good price for a previsible or is this like finding lubester as far as collectability? Any info is appreciated. Thanks Mac

Just for clarification, this is not the exact pump, but a pic of one just like what I saw.

Ask him if he still has the globe body by chance.... The Pump Bible puts its value at $1050.00, definitely worth $100.00... Tell him I'll give him $150.00 for it....LOL, Go get it!!!

Thunder, I did ask him if he had the globe and he said he did at one time but broke it. He also has a MS80 shorty he'll sell me for $100 and will gut that one too. That one I'll buy, just wasn't sure about the previsible. I've seen a few restored and they look cool, but they're big and wasn't sure how collectible they were or what it was worth.

have your back brace when you move that pump, goodness its heavy. I am not sure the value is $1050 as the book states but I have seen many sell in the $300-550 range.

Thanks Scott. Should probably buy it and decide later if I should restore or sell it or trade for something. I told the guy I'd pay him to deliver them if he gutted both pumps. Said he'd deliver them for $30. That's a cheap price to pay to avoid a back injury in my opinion.
Does anyone have a picture of this pump restored? Seeing one restored might motivate me to restore it and keep it.
Thanks Mac

Its a very solid pump and interesting to. They do look nice all done up, don't have him gut it as he may take out some of the parts you need to hold the gallon stops etc. Bomb can restore it for now and wait and see if it grows on you.

Most of the questions you asked are answered in my Gas Pump Identification book. If you can buy that pump for $100.00 and it is probably worth at least $1000.00 you can use the profit to purchase the book. You can get it right here on this website, and while Jim might not be able to get it to you by Christmas, I'm sure it will be nice reading for the new year. Jack Sim

Jack,
Point taken. I've asked too many questions regarding pump values over the last couple of years. I'll make it a point to buy your book over the holidays and will buy throught Oldgas.
Hope everyone on this site has a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. Will post pics once I get the pumps.
Thanks to all and God bless.

I just bought the book on oldgas and it seems uninformed and poorly researched...
ONLY JOKING PEOPLE...
Seriously, I don't even collect pumps that often but the book is a MUST HAVE. It's a great contribution to the hobby...

LEAVE THE GUTS IN THE G&B 65. Without the guts, all you will have is castings & sheetmetal, with no way of holding them together. db

Dick,
I emailed the guy and told him NOT to gut the pump. Told him I want it just as it is.
Thanks for the info. Glad I didn't let him go ahead and gut it. Will post pics once I get it. The guy has a ton of junk piled in front of it and said it might take him a month to get the stuff moved out of the way to get it out. I offered to help. Maybe I can get it out sooner?

...you oughta get those pumps ASAP in case he changes his mind...I've had that happen before (on more than one occasion), and it ain't fun...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I was a little worried about that too. I offered to help him move the stuff out of his barn so I could get to the pump. Going to give him a call on Monday and see if I can set up a time to help him dig'em out.
