I've been meaning to keep an inventory of my collection for years, but just never got around to doing it. After the recent misfortune with my globe shelf, it kinda kick started my desire to try it again. Collector's Insurance Agency sends out a small newsletter periodicaly and this last one told of a website that does this. Keeps your items with 10 pictures per item, price list, even video. It is ITaggit.com. Well I went there, registered and tried with a couple of cans. I'm no computer genius, but I couldn't figure out how the thing works. To me, it's basically what "My Pictures" is on a computer. Couldn't figure out how to organize or add pricing.

There are also some free sites on the web but they have to be downloaded and most use Windows Vista. With dial-up, downloading large programs takes hours and then they don't work for me.

So does anyone use and recommend a program that is simple to use with items listed, description, pictures, pricing (paid and current valueh) and any other valuable info? And it can be backup saved to a thumbdrive or disc. Thank you.

Gary i use colletors software i bought off the net on CD many years ago. It's cheap but works. I let Wes (thermfactor) borrow the CD but haven't gotten it back yet.

I can post some pics if you want to see it. I don't if you can still buy it or not but i could send you my CD if that place isn't in around anymore as soon as i get it from Wes and you don't keep it for a year. LOL

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Gary,
Here is how I do it:
http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006247.html

It really helped me out when I had a claim on a broken globe.

If you use Excel I can send you a starter spreadsheet file with formulas, etc.

I have also heard of people using QuickBooks to organize their collections.

Good Luck,
Kim

I keep it simple, all I use is a Microsoft Spreadsheet, List item ( description) cost, FMV , date purchased..
Save one picture of everything in JEP file in My Pictures, done..cheap too..

The best and easiest as well as the cheapest way is to use an Excel spreadsheet. This is simple to use and will suffice in any claim issues. Pics are great too, but FMV is better. Remember, CI only requires items to be scheduled with them that have an individual value of $5000 or more

I use Microsoft Word for my items and keep my pictures on CD. An Excel spreadsheet would work great also and would calculate totals. Don't know if I would want to try to transfer mine over at this point though.

Gary,

If you have MS Office, take a look at MS Access. It has an inventory/assets template which allows you to attach things like photos.

I just purchased this off ebay. It looks like what I'm exactly looking for. The seller has hundreds and from a question I asked him, they are all the same (even though they say "dolls, toy trains, signs, etc". The program can be customized to fit your specifics. They have a download version that eliminates the shipping cost, but with dial up, I opted for the CD. I'll let you know how it goes once received, installed and I get a chance to work on it.

Oh yea, I almost forgot. The seller has some in regular auctions and some with Buy It Now. All the same software. I just looked at his other auctions until I found one with BIN.

Roadrelics, if getting a CD, it's $5.50 shipping. You still have less then 15 bucks in it. I have been checking all the electronic stores around town and no one has software geared just to collectibles. Closest thing was Quicken Pro or various MS versions. This software is a least 1/2 the price and I don't have to use my brain too much. I hope!!!

Someone keep us updated on how good this software is after they have used it. A little product review would be great. I might have to consider it.

Hang on to your money...for now anyway. I received the CD version yesterday and installed it. I can't get the pictures to work though. It's a simple copy/paste procedure but it's not taking into their item picture block. I tried to log onto the treasuresoft website for help but it's unavailable! So I emailed the seller asking for suggestions and have yet to hear back.

Another disappointment is you can't keep a running total of money spent or current value. There IS much detailed info entry for an item but costs are not totaled. The description says it can be "customized" but I have yet to find anything that will do this. What I want is to sub catalogue into "CANS" "GLOBES" etc. but don't know if it's possible yet.

I'm still playing with it and waiting on a seller response but as of right now, don't be in any hurry to purchase this. I may wind up buying Quicken Pro in the end.
