It has a different logo underneath the painted on "regular motor oil" logo. I'd like to see the original Socony logo. Thinking about doing one side only. Should I leave it alone? Nervous to ruin it. It's dated 24-5-30(may,25,30). Made by the St.Louis Can Co. May,10,1927. Thanks for any & all input. This is my first 5gallon rocker can. Just got it this morning!

Thanks again,
Jeremy

Thanks Mick! The garden hose was removing the repainted logo. I'm holding back. It's only original once....

I'd try and do one side if you feel confident.

Can was Patented in '27, can could have been made anytime after that.
Nice that your leaving the car/truck original also! Yard Art. LOL

If hose is removing the top paint job but leaving the original OK then there is a possibility of removing the over-coat. However the risk is considerable. You could try dampening a cloth and pressing, but not rubbing, against that over-paint. You want to go with as delicate a solution that will loosen that overcoat. Needless to say the can is worth more with the original advertising than the over-paint.

I got the date wrong above. It was the 24th of may 1930 not the 25th. I did more cleaning around the top coat on one side only. Some more paint did let go with the hose! The shield appears to be blank. I'm looking into this more, one side would be nice cleaned up. Feels like I'm erasing history though...like I want to remove it but I shouldnt. That will be a truck someday DB. Gas & oil signs, cans, station photos, etc have put my car projects on hold. I'm building an awesome junk yard that's bout it. Thanks guys!

I dunno bout Honda Cvccs. They were rusting out as they were unloaded at the L A docks . Cell phones , shoot , tomorrows kids will probably have highly developed MENTAL communication skills . NO further need for cumbersome cell phones with batteries that go dead !

Well its ok with me. There was another can on here not long ago pretty much the same deal. Company made cans for many different companies and some members thought that the can was re labeled before it left the factory. Now where that topic is I'm not sure.
