The book includes 30 chapters, each with a theme. The first eight are major oil company stations, broken down by era, specifically 1913-1924 (with pre-1913 pics), 1925-1934, 1935-1945, 1945-1955, 1955-1965, 1965-1973,1974-1995, 1995-present. Chapters that follow the majors include "The Unusual", "Survivors", Tracksiders, Wide Area Discounters. Following these chapters, the country is broken into regions, with station photos from: Independents of the Northeast, Pennsylvania, The Carolinas and Virginia, The South, Florida, Texas and the Southwest, The Great Lake States, The Upper Midwest, Midwest Refiners, The Rocky Mountain West, and The Far West States, and Canada. The book finishes with chapters on Truckstops, Travel Stops, Turnpike Stations, Marinas and Airports, and a chapter entitled "Disasters", photos that show floods, fires, blizzards, and other mishaps at service stations throughout the century.
