I'm no globe expert but I would think at $610 it should have either met the reserve or should be really close

I agree Jon...In my opinion that globe at the current price should have met a "reasonable" reserve. Nice, but not rare by any means.....

Wow!! That is beautiful to me!! I hope to have one of these some day and this seems a great example!!
He doesn't say specifically, but you think it's original paint as well?
Why are the snap rings so short? Is this typical?

I don't think that's the original paint...and it looks to me like the snap rings might be for a 15" globe.....

Now that sure seems like it is going to be getting out of hand by the time it finishes. Not in the greatest looking condition.

Hen, that is/was a nice globe, but I still feel it went high. If a person wants a glossy showpiece, get a set of nice lenses and a shiny new body, but it could be done for MUCH less. I've bought a nice single 16.5" Mobilgas lens for $150 within the last 3 years. I know prices have gone up some, but here again I think it is another case of if you wait, go to a show or petro auction, one could be had for much less.
I bought mine for $500 here on Old Gas, unrestored just a couple years ago. I don't want shiny personally, I like the old weathered original red paint on mine. I just can't see how a shiny body doubles the value, the lenses are the same? I think Scott sells them for around $750-$800, which is top tier value IMO.

And to most globe collectors that price is right on the money!
You got a fair price and so did the buyer.
Both happy i am sure.
