I purchased this gas station earlier this year from a bank repo. It was in very poor condition. I redid the entire inside and outside; windows, doors, heating and cooling. It still has three lifts inside. Now the space is used as extra storage for our companies. I hope you like, it was a fun project to work on and a very good price.

Thanks,
Nick

Without a doubt, my most amazing purchases of 2013 would have to be the two signs I bought from my friend "Petro Pete". The Texaco Marine was new to him in 1947 and hung in his marina for many years, until he moved it to the house for safe keeping, before selling it to me in 2013. The Quaker State neon was also a fixture from his uptown service station and dates back to the 20's.
The addition of the glass, cat eyed Cities Service curb sign , was the most important addition to my Cities Service collection, since is inception. This piece is an early teens or twenties piece and I have never seen another one in anyone's collection! It is by far the rarest piece of early Cities Service advertising that I own!
2013 was an amazing year for me and these 3 pieces symbolize just how fantastic it was! A big "THANK YOU" to Petro Pete and Clinton Newell for their help!

Added several very nice signs to my collection but these two top the list for the year. The GMC sign is currently being restored with new neon; will post the finished product once it is done. The Marathon came from a family that had it for 60 years and was obtained from a station that was being dismantled in the 1950's.

Not a huge year, but way more than I deserved, I'm sure. Here are 3 iconic pieces. The United Motors is a poor pic, but has had its rear tire and wheel repaired.

Special Thanks to Noah "Gas Globe Guy" for making a deal with me on my Ford Benzol Sign!!! I never thought I'd ever be able to have an original one in my collection, and I know it's rough, but it's real and it's Mine!!! I plan on leaving it in it's unrestored condition. You can restore it whenever you want, but it's only original once!

Great 2013 BOTY's Everyone!

Here's Mine, looks like 2013 could go down as the year of the Wayne 60's, LOL...

Worked on buying this wide body for a year before the owner finally said yes, haven't done anything to it other than get the lights working.

It took 3 years of "stopping by" to get this one! all the collectors I know around here tried to get the owner to sell it, once I got the call that he was ready to let it go I was there in 30 minutes and had it loaded up!
A week later it was stripped down and the restoration began.

After...

Picked up a few can's as well..

Happy Hunting in 2014!!

Bob

Well this came off of a station in Dubois, WY found in its' attic in the 70's. I had to drive to Chicago to rescue it and bring it back to Wyoming where it belongs. Mitch

This showed up at my door thr other day.Several years ago i got the base from the grandson of the Cities Service station owner here in Oslo. He said he had the rest of the sign somewhere. It was used to keep the grainery door open or closed for years and also to funnel grain into the auger from the truck ,then dissappeared. Well it arrived the other day.I asked how much, he said Merry Christmas. The Chevy sign i got out of a building that was a dealership in a small Minnesota town years ago

I slowed down a lot this year on the buying but here are my favorites this year. No pumps this year witch is odd for me lol. smile

Globes.

Set of Vaughts the Super Regular is a hard one to get.

This Sterling is another one I own that is the only one known to exist. Found it on Craigslist & was about a hour from me.

Here are my favorite quart cans. Nothing real rare or special but still my favs smile

Well I bought one clock this year & this is it. Keeps prefect time & looks great with the neon lite up.

Just a couple big signs make the list for me this year. I look at the Johnson & see the sign I wish it was LoL. Did a gas pump trade for the United Motors from a friend of mine redoing a old station.

The Sterling globe is a particular rarity. While from an unknown company when the globe book was completed, the globe has since been confirmed as having been used by a company in Burlington, Vermont. This globe appears on a pump shown on page 213 in the new "One Hundred Years of Gas Stations."

Picked up a few globes this year. Our two favorite pieces are the R.O.C. globe and the Mid-West with the camel. Both of these globes are from small Michigan companies and are ones we have been looking for a long time. Each of the companies were from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and were bought out by Leonard Refineries in the 1950s.

Also some of our quart cans purchases for 2013.

Nice stuff everyone, lets see some more!!

Besides the Texaco Salt Boxes, this is right up there being the hardest to find. A bit rough, but for $9.95 Thanks to all who didn't bid. ; )

Doug, Sorry for the link, only way the wife could get it to a decent size.

Here are some of my favourite keepers of 2013. I started with a single Golden Shell imperial quart and now I am up to five and looking for more, added a big Buffalo tin to the herd, an upgrade North Star Ethyl lens, 3 Mazda cabinets, and a couple of the signs that joined the collection. May your 2014 be as good if not better than last year. Cheers, Don.

Terrific thread very enjoyable. Problem for me is, I think I should throw all our stuff to the curb.
The Frontier in the ripple is just about the best.

Top row, second to the left in pictures (click link). It was available for purchase to all who look (if in fact it's the same one). Both from Chicago, so I took a wild guess.

If I recall the story right his father had priced everything before he passed. I know a few people who have bought from him and they said he will work with you but he will not give it away and I can't say that I blame him.

It is the same globe. He was a nice guy to deal with, but as you say he didn't give it away. I had been watching his site every since he first advertised the collection here an Old
Gas a year and a half ago hoping it would come up for sale. I happened to click onto his site the day he put it up for sale and the next day I had it bought. The story was that his family would come to Dubois every summer to spend time at a dude ranch there. His dad went throgh a attic of a closed filling station and found that one and a Chevron globe. The worst part was the other side is cracked but his dad glued it together, which it is stilled glued. To me as a Wyoming native and old Frontier employe I had to have it. I do consider it a piece of company and Wyoming history. Mitch

I don't know if there is a OldGas "Story of the year" but if there is, I nominate J.E. Radebaughs Buy of the Year as the story of the year for 2013!!! What a great window into your family's past! Thanx for sharing that with us!

I have had some very cool buys during 2013 and I don't get to keep much for my own collection but it makes me extremely happy to be able to un-earth/rediscover many of these items and to be able to be the caretaker for them for a short amount of time! The people are another wonderful side of these finds/buys also! Sellers and buyers have some great stories and personalities.

I've been wanting a Vertical sign since I started doing this but I have never wanted a ordinary one.
I was called about the 2 Penn. tires signs and after getting them home and cleaned up, I had to sell the better one but now the vert. sign is my first vertical sign in my own collection! I really enjoy the way the letters are very gothic looking and it is a eye catcher even tho it is simple.
Pictured on my wall, in my home, next to Crushy and I had to edit out the mess on my computer desk. wink

In December, picked up these Cities Service quart cans all in one lot & this harder to find red clover sign.

Also in 2013 a 16 ft marquee sign from an auction & this 6 ft Cities complete pole sign from an 2 OldGassers.

All of these (except the marquee) started with an inquiry nearly 6-months before coming to fruition. It was quite the waiting game, but as always well worth it.

(hopefully 2014 is just as good, if not better!)

Not much by Most standards but a good start to my globe collection & to add to my few starter signs.
Found the globe by chance . While I was re-searching the history of the company ,I ran across a 1936 Old Dutch 100 share stock certificate that I will mount to the oak show case that I made for the globe. The gentlemen whom owned it was kind enough to send it too me for my display.Would not take a dime.I am going to send him something petro in return.

Thanks to Travis and Jim for your comments on the Zephyr. It must be special cause it's the only gas/oil item my wife lets me keep in the house.

Good eye Ted. At the time the picture was taken I had just brought the globe home and didn't realize it was in fact turned around. If you zoom in and look close the picture now shows the globe with the ring in the proper position.

I got a couple items for the collection last year. I saw a picture of a sign like this in the one collectibles book several years ago. I think the book was printed in the 1990's. Never saw a real one untill a guy bought some from an old Sinclair guy and put them on ebay. PASCO stands for the Pan Am Sulpher Company. They owned part of Sinclair in the 1960's if I remember the info right.

This very sign is the one pictured in the Sinclair collectibles book. I saw it in person at Iowa Gas in 2012. A guy brought it and a matching half gallon can to the show to show us but it was not for sale. Last year he found a globe he wanted and he sold the can and the sign to my brother. I traded for the sign and have dibs on the can. Sinclair bought out Cudahy and then used the Opaline brand name.

Also picked up this sign. Probably from the 1930's era and used on the back of a delivery truck. The round ones are a lot more common. I think there is a matching Opaline sign too.

Also picked up a clock at IG

Also picked up a few cans and other things. It was a good year but it is getting expensive to add to the collection.

For my BOTY I am choosing a ROCO globe that "mm" was kind enough to part with. It was a key acquisition as it lead to an addiction with globes as you can see by the company it keeps.

ROCO also qualifies as an independent company that existed in Winnipeg MB until the late 70s as per the link below

Better start investing in additional shelving Fred, those pair of globes will multiply like rabbits.

Steve the "others bunnies" are around the corner. But in the long term they will live in the gararge once I get shelving and electricity in there. too cold to start now.
