I'm not saying the sign doesn't look great and all that.
But what I want to know is has anyone ever seen one made like this. I feel like this was probably a sign made by someone other than Mobil. I have talked to several people today who do a lot of neon and no one has ever seen one made like this. Who's to say you couldn't just throw one together age the galvanized metal let it sit out a while and say look what I got. If we are truly purists I would like to know if Mobil made the sign or is it just an old fantasy piece.

I like that idea Steve . I have yet to see a Mobil in neon lit up in real life , you forgot the crickets on a mild summer night , but got to have a hammock as well.....Wouldn't that be neat.

Yes,....

I've seen and taken down both porcelain and galvanized Pegasus that rotated...

My Dad owned one of each; this was in the late 1960s, early 70s... By the time I got back from the Service (early 80s)... My folks had moved (but I still found them) and Dad was getting more involved in operating the Model A restoration business...

So most of his large signs had found new homes....

Well I am glad Bob knows his T&As :-)
Fords of course!
Travis nature's neon, fire flies, would be in my list of things I would want on a starry night while watching the Peggie light up.
Didn't the Magnolia Hotel have a rotating lighted Pegasus till ~1974. Now that would have been cool to see on the skyline of Dallas.

I have seen both also, and at first thought that one was home made. Picked up a bunch of signs from the center of the country and all were made by a commercial sign company for Auto dealerships and were all galvanized. One still had the small who made it sign on it. You never know and quite honestly always makes you think. Some companies just tried to get things done cheaper it seemed, or would not want to pay shipping maybe.

Still one on top of the Magnolia, it's hard to see unless you know where to look in amongst all of the tall buildings. Was restored back around 2000 at a cost of more than $600,000 !

Since you guys have been drooling over that sign I thought I would post an opportunity for you. Check the online auctions forum. Those neon Pegasus signs are awesome, I must admit....GB

I saw the episode and thought the sign looked great lit up. Obviously Rick and his guys do great work, but his restoration prices seem really higher sometimes. Are they average or are the customers paying 'Vegas' prices?

According to news articles the Dallas Magnolia landmark is a new horse that was replaced in 99.

My buddy visited Ricks and met his brother and son and he said they were real nice..you can pay $50 and visit their boneyard and pick an item and they will restore it for you..you have to pay to have it restored of course but it's a pretty easy way to find a cool item.
